Call in "sick" because of construction and watch sports all day. That would likely increase the need for groceries ---- which can't be a fun thing. ...of course, if at all possible you could always break into the piggy bank & order pizza everyday. Just sayin... _______ Did I read that this is due to a nearby grocery store? If so, I'd use a camcorder with a LCD playback (borrow one if you have to) --- record your daily trek, and walk down to the store - playback your movie, and demand restitution. You could do the same with the City itself. Perhaps they can invest $10 in plywood for you to walk over.

After two weeks of zero progress, I decided to stop the "suck it up" route, and took my first course of action. I wrote this to the city (several departments, actually).
To whom it may concern:
I hope this finds the right person, as I was not sure who to address this to.
My name is Aaron Surber, and I live with my wife at 633 34th Street. As I'm sure you're aware, this street has been torn up for the storm sewer project. This project started mid to late August, and is ongoing.
My wife and I have resided in our home for about 2 years, and were hit almost right away with the prospect of the Dahl's expansion and major renovations to our street. We went to the city council meetings to protest the Dahl's expansion, unfortunately to no avail. We now have a large brick wall for our view instead of an open sky. But I digress…
During the time of construction on our road, we were not aware that there would be no sidewalks or alternative routes to our vehicles. This means walking 1-2 blocks in the mud, and many times among large working construction equipment. We both have to bring two pairs of shoes with us, as we have to change shoes after walking through the mud. My wife sprained her ankle a few weeks back, so for a while I had to practically carry her to her car. Metabank has disallowed parking there, so there are times we have to drive around the block to find parking. This is all in addition to the obvious inconveniences such as carrying groceries on mud for over a block, and not being able to have friends/relatives over.
During the tear up of the road, the crew would normally start early in the morning. My wife and I both work later shifts, so this loud work (that would shake the whole house) would wake us up every morning. We tried to adjust our sleeping schedules as much as possible, but work dictates our bedtimes. For a good month, our sleep was minimal.
We have had two weeks where our trash was not picked up. This is simply inexcusable. I don't have much to add to that. We have also caught construction workers walk up to our house, pull our hose out and use it without permission. Again, inexcusable.
Now there seems to be a time of no progress. For the last two weeks, I have seen usually no workers out there, sometimes one person working to compact the gravel down. The bottom line of this is we have been walking through mud and have had no access to our driveway for over two months. We've tried to remain calm and keep things in perspective, but cannot anymore. After second, third, and fourth opinions, my thoughts have been validated. Please advise what can be done, as walking through mud and not having access to our driveway is no longer acceptable.
Regards,
Aaron Surber

Who knows if this will do anything, or get me anywhere...I just couldn't stand being submissive about it anymore... especially when I have all family members and friends telling me how fucked up it is, that I should do something.

That sucks man, I'm getting pretty sick of it myself, but you have it alot worse where your house is. That is not even mentioning the fact that you own the place. The not being able to sleep past 7 is what really pisses me off. The other morning some dipshit had his car alarm set at a very sensitive level and I got to listen to bulldozers, various other ground shaking constuction vehicles, and some morons car alarm for the 2.5 hours I was trying to sleep before going to work.
I hate to say it but I don't think the city gives 2 shits about your well being.

You may be right, but if they don't reply, I'm probably going to write in to the DSM Register, or Citiview, shit like that to at least make people aware. The thing that drives me crazy is that there's absolutely no progress going on right now. Like I said, I just feel like I need to start pushing back.

I hear you on that, it seems like they have had the rock laid for about two weeks and I don't see anything else being done since then.

I feel your pain Itheus. DM started working on Thomas Beck Road (which runs in front of my office) in early August with the promise that it would be open in 10 weeks. Come to find out that they won't be opening it until Thanksgiving. The road crews sure work at a timely pace around here.
