Give what a rest? I think there are deep policy and philosophical questions we should think about in light of last night's historic victory.
I have seen some questioning and a little rallying of the troops, but the Republicans are nowhere near as bitter as the Democrats were after Dubya cleaned house the last few elections. In lieu of asking deep questions, would you prefer if we became mud slingers? I sincerely hope President-Elect Obama eschews the same old business-government coziness and brings real, positive change and that GDP and the stock market skyrocket during his term. If we see the economy and markets grow like they did in the Clinton years, I would be ecstatic.

BTR - In all honesty, isn't your only concern in all of this your personal financial well-being?

I don't know if I would say Dubya "cleaned house" in the last two elections. He BARELY won either one and both were questionable at that.

BTR - In all honesty, isn't your only concern in all of this your personal financial well-being? No, my biggest concern in all of this is my family's financial well-being. I've been poor and I would be happy to move my belongings into a trailer and park it in the middle of Iowa, but I sure as hell don't want my kids growing up there. I want them to have it better than I did. If your kids don't have it better than you did, I don't really care, it's not my duty to raise your kids.

It was a simple question and I respect your answer. No need to bring my kids into it.......that was a trailer park move.

Only look at for #1.....no regard for your fellow man....shit on people if you have to so you get what you want. No, you don't have to be concerned for anyone else's well being you can be a fat cocksucker if you want. If you honestly think the beauty of our system is not to give 2 shits about anyone else, you're fucking warped.

That is the beauty lp, the beauty is also that if you feel some moral obligation to help others, you can. When it becomes warped is when people feel the government is there to "fix" everything for them. If EVERYONE looked out for #1 instead of wanting a hand out imagine how much stronger of a country we'd have. That being said the USA and the world are always going to have rich and poor. Not everyone can be rich. It's just the way it is. To quote the late great Ted Knight "The world needs ditch diggers too."

Can you give me one example of a person who wants government to fix EVERYTHING for them? Conservatives give that tired line constantly, yet in my 31 years on Earth I have never met 1 single person who wants the government to do everything for them.

If you honestly think the beauty of our system is not to give 2 shits about anyone else, you're fucking warped. The invisible hand is controlled by the lifelong pursuit of personal gratification. If someone wants to be better off they find ways to market and produce a product that will be most competitive in the market. It is this desire for self gratification that encourages competitive markets and drives prices down. If you have a better idea than the current leading producer of whatever product, find a way to put it into production and by making a higher quality/less expensive product you and the rest of society will reap the benefits of your entreprenuerial gusto. In this regard, selfishness is not a bad thing. Don't get me wrong though, this is an easier truth in more archaic times.

Twine - completely agree with your point. It's the idea of "doing whatever it takes" without regard for your neighbor, community, others in general to "market your product/idea/whatever" that I see as a fault of our society. The capitalist ideology has been twisted by some to see this as just another way to do business.

Do you disagree with me because I have not read your favorite book, "It Takes A Village" by your hero, Hillary Rodham Clinton? Do you think it is my duty to raise your kids?
