I got all pissed off by a comment I heard Tom Harkin make and emailed him today, here it is.
Dear Senator Harkin,
Let me start by telling you how disappointed I am in you for voting for the unbelievable "Stimulas" package. That thing is so full of pork and over spending it makes me sick. It's amazing to me that elected officals don't understand basic economics. If you want to stimulate the economy simply cut government programs that are unfair to begin with (i.e.-welfare, hud housing, any program intended for people who don't work) and then cut taxes on working individuals and companys. Guess what, people would have more money to shop, and their bosses would have more money to hire more people, which would mean everyone wins. Did any of you people ever actually work in the free market??? Why in gods name would we give more money to ACORN in this "Stimulas". I understand you are a democrat so for you equality will always trump personnal liberty and freedom, however by taking from the people working and giving it to people who aren't, you teach them there is no need to become successful because "Uncle Sam" will take care of them. People who are already on welfare are having more kids??? How is this even legal?? Isn't this child endangerment?? And guess what, those kids will end up on welfare also.
Now that I got that out of the way let me explain why I'm really emailing you. I heard you say "we absolutly need a fairness doctrine." Explain why. Is it because you are against free speech?? Is it because conservative radio talk show hosts don't share YOUR beliefs?? It makes me wonder if you also think that MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, any major newspaper, or any other network should also be silenced. What happened to freedom and liberty and justice in America?? If people don't want to listen they can simply turn the channel, that's the beauty of being free, which is something you have lost sight of sir. When someone has a different view point than you and you use your position of authority to silence them it becomes tyranny, and oppression. It makes me wonder what the founding fathers would say to you about your desire to control others view points. You should be ashamed of yourself. I expect a response and explanation.
Due to your comments and actions on these subjects for the first time in my life I'm ashamed to be an Iowan.
Sincerely,
Herkyp.

Meh, sounds like a tirade more than anything. Too much emotion in the letter and not enough thought behind your words. I see what you are getting at and share a lot of the same beliefs but you really should have looked it over and edited what you were writing if you wanted it to have any effectiveness. I'm pretty sure this one will run into the paper shredder pretty quickly.
Sorry dude, just sayin'.

Let us know his response.

I agree, good job on the letter. It may or may not have been said better, but not by me.
I will tell you exactly why they are putting our tax dollars into Acorn, not that you probably don't know. Acorn registers mostly democrats in the poorer parts of cities. Help Acorn grow, keep registering new democrats, keep the democrats in office. Keep democrats in office and they keep increasing the amount of money that goes towards welfare etc. Keep the poor happy and they in effect buy their vote for the next generation.
It sounds pretty simple to me.

Makes sense in the mind of a Republican. PS - Did you ever read what happened with your ACORN paranoia? news.cincinnati.com/article/20090127/NEWS01/301270059

Makes sense in the mind of a Republican. PS - Did you ever read what happened with your ACORN paranoia? news.cincinnati.com/article/20090127/NEWS01/301270059No ACORN paranoia here. www.komonews.com/news/8729967.htmlSEATTLE (AP) - King County prosecutors filed felony charges Thursday against seven people in what a top official described as the worst case of voter-registration fraud in state history, while the organization they worked for agreed to keep a better eye on its employees and pay $25,000 to defray costs of the investigation.
The seven submitted about 1,800 registration cards last fall on behalf of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which had hired them at $8 an hour to sign people up to vote, according to charging documents filed in Superior Court....
...ACORN, founded in 1970, has run voter registration drives across the country, with allegations of fraudulent registrations surfacing in several states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri and Colorado in recent years.
The Washington state probe began after King County election workers in October spotted apparently forged voter-registration cards among about 1,800 that were turned in by ACORN. The cards arrived a day after they were due for the November election.
Election officials feared that tossing all of the registrations could inadvertently disenfranchise any potentially legitimate voters in the batch. So they allowed the names to appear on the rolls for subsequent elections, including an advisory vote on replacing Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct in March.
But they flagged those names and tried to verify them using other state databases. Only six turned out to be legitimate voters, Satterberg said. The King County canvassing board agreed to remove many of the rest - 1,762 - from the rolls Thursday, satisfied they were fraudulent. Investigators determined that no votes were cast from the fraudulent voter registrations.
Charging papers said that in many cases, the ACORN workers flipped through phone books or baby-name books at the Seattle Public Library, picking names from one page and addresses from another.
Frequently they listed homeless shelters as the addresses, requiring shelter staff to spend hours going through their records to determine whether any of the people had actually lived there.

Fucking moron.
They probably stopped reading, and rightly so, at "stimulas." Really...you expect a US Senator to take economics "advice" from a dumbass who can't even spell "stimulus" correctly?
I'm sure they got a good laugh. And I'm sorry that our educational system failed you so miserably.
It would appear that at least one child was indeed left behind.

No thunder, you fucking waste of skin, I didn't spell it wrong in the email. I was at work when I sent this, and was working on another computer. I actually had my assistant post the email on this board for me because the computer I was on didn't have the web address for the wasteland saved and I couldn't remember it. I will let him know that you are willing to give him some spelling lessons. When should I tell him the biggest internet tough guy of all time will be meeting with him??

Geez, if you put it that way... you come out looking even more intelligent. Let's follow this scenario a bit... -You purportedly write an e-mail paraphrased from Rush/Fox's greatest hits of the last week... -You send it to your US Senator. -Later, believing this act showed an unrivaled insight. You ask an "assistant" to submit this e-mail, which was sent via a non-retrievable source ( harkin.senate.gov/c/) onto this board. One can deduce from this scenario: -Immediately before clicking "Send Email" on Harkin's contact page, you copied the text of your e-mail and pasted/saved it to another document. -The e-mail your "assistant" posted contained the same typographical errors, or was actually written by your "assistant" --- making this whole episode an extremely cut & dry case of plagiarism. -Your "assistant" is somehow incapable of e-mailing you a link, or attaching the document to an e-mail - and sending it to you... which shows how wise your decision making skills truly are. Kudos

No socal, let me explain this one more time. In my office I have two computers, one of which is linked to a movement program. I was working one, he was working on the other. We got done checking movement and started projections for next (now this) week. We started talking about the comment made by Harkin and I pulled up his web page and began writing the email. Pulled up a second browser so I could copy and paste the text to the wasteland website, however then realized I had never logged onto the wasteland from that computer. I then asked him to bring it up and give me the address. He pulled it up and started looking at some threads. He then suggested just to speak as I wrote and he would post for me. I guess at the time I didn't realize there would be debate. I will have him PM you his phone number so the debate can continue between you and him.

To summarize, Herky points out the ruin that these continued stimulus packages will surely lead us to.....to the point where the United States credit rating being lowered is seriously being discussed. Additionally, Herky points out the liberal effort to override the free market by force feeding liberal talk radio to unwilling listeners via the "Fairness Doctrine". If people wanted to hear liberal talk radio, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. On the other hand, SoCal and Pirate want to concentrate on the interoffice relationships of Herky.

SoCal and Thunder, I'm curious to hear your feelings on the Fairness Doctrine. I'll sit patiently and wait............. It ranks up there with my worry that all guns will be confiscated & all able bodied males will be forced to marry each other. ...meaning, I couldn't give a crap about another one of the tin foil hat wearing brigade's latest causes du jour. Thanks for the idea though. I know what to do once I'm laid off EO March... Get a crapload of T-Shirts and have " WOLVERINES!!!!!!!" printed on them - and sell them on wingnut sites/conventions, for symbols of your epic struggles against fictitious foes.

I guess I'll listen to that, even though I'll have to wade through David Brooks and some douchefucker from the Weekly Standard.

That kind of tells me that people aren't willing to listen to the BS that liberal talk show host have to spew. If there were liberal listeners, there would be more liberal talk radio. The fact o fthe matter is that Conservatives were around loooooong before Rush, Hannity and Boortz were on the radio. They struck a chord with Conservative listeners who were fed up with the liberal drivel coming from NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC, Washington Post, New York Times, LA Times, blah blah blah. It was the Conservatives BEFORE Rush and Hannity.....not Rush and Hannity before the Conservatives. Get it right slick.
