Winner, winner chicken dinner. At least where I teach. So many problems with the school system right now. Teachers as parents, lack of respect for teaching as a profession, too many teachers looking for summers off and out the door at 3:30....plenty of blame to go around..... Agreed. I think it's a multi-faceted problem. And I was just talking to a buddy about how some kids don't respect their elders/teachers. I teach tae kwon do and some of the kids in class refuse to pay attention, play grab-ass with each other, make faces at each other, etc. Sooner or later, I figure they will get tired of the pushups I've been handing out. But my gawd, they are sloooooooooow learners. Probably because the kids don't get any discipline at home, which is probably why their parents got them enrolled in TKD in the first place... to teach the brats some discipline. (sigh) Does anyone else picture gumby going all rexkwondoe on some punk ass kids?

(sigh) I'm not a perfect parent or teacher, just a couple of observations: Many kids have no reason to respect their parents, let alone anybody else. Most adults are better off when they realize kids (and people in general) aren't always going to like them or be happy every second of their life.....like and love (or respect) are not always the same. Kids don't always need to be placated....struggle can build "character" A little accountability goes a long ways....sometimes it really is YOUR kid's fault and not another kid or teacher. Kids think about their actions when there will be ramifications.....they are WAY smarter than most adults want to believe.....take away the cell phone or xbox or car when they mess up and see what happens next time. Kids will test you to see if you will follow through....don't threaten something with which you cannot or will not enforce. I know this is common sense-type stuff, but you don't have to pass any tests to have a kid.

It WAS interesting to note that the two girls who were fukking up last Thursday night in class were not in class last night. Maybe their feelings haven't healed up quite yet. Darn it.
