Is anyone going to see this movie? It's getting very good reviews. I'm guessing it will be considered the sleeper hit of the summer and be a huge movie over the next month or so.

Never heard of it.
And you can bet if it's getting rave reviews.... it sucks.

the nerds are hyped up over it so that's a good sign at least.

Saw it yesterday. It lives up to every ounce of the hype.

Yeah, I thought there was some hype around it. It wasn't Hollywood hype, so it wasn't inundating your senses.

I even work in a video store part-time. Nobody... and I mean NObody... has mentioned this film at all. Yes, I know that it is obviously not out on DVD yet, but still... normally when customers come in, they will also talk about recent films showing in the theathers. This is not happening for this flick. Nada. Zilch. That's all I know. Take it for what it's worth. Maybe it is an epic film, but I've haven't heard jack shit about it yet.

Finally saw a blurb in the paper about it last night and remembered that I DID see a preview for it a few months back. It's an alien flick. All that I know. Based on that limited bit of knowledge on the film, I don't know if I would call it "hype". I DO hope it rocks though. Seriously. There have been fewer and fewer movies that have been good over the years.

We watched "The Goods: Sell Hard" instead. Decent flick with a few very funny moments...worth a rental.

Saw this on DVD last night.
Overall, not bad. Although I am glad that I did not pay theater price and waited for it to come out on rental.
Some parts of the story had some holes and other parts were kinda lame, but overall not bad. This movie could have gone in several different directions and for a time, I thought the producers weren't quite sure which direction to go either.
But I am glad to have finally seen it now. It was entertaining.... and that's the whole point. I would give it 3 stars out of 5.
Gonna watch "Paranormal Activity" tonight. I'll give my take on that one too.

I watched it via pay-for-view. I'd give it a solid B+. Sequel coming as well IMO.
BTW...the new Sherlock Holmes movie...dunno...lots of hype...but the movie never seemed to get out of 2nd gear....I'd give it a C+ to B-

*** spoiler alert on Paranormal Activity for anyone who hasn't seen it!
Paranormal Activity: pretty over-hyped in my opinion. I knew that the chick was gonna end up killing her BF before it ever happened. Maybe that's why it didn't do much for me. Mostly boring with some intense parts scattered in between. It was another attempt at the "Blair Witch" type of film except that I just couldn't get into the whole "this might be REAL" aspect. This film starts out a bit slow, and does get better as it goes along, but it was pretty predictable for the most part. Overall, a decent rental and a good flick to watch with your woman to get her all cuddled up next to you. Other than that, not worth a second watch. Grade: C+

Grade: C+ I would agree with pretty much everything you said. The build up was too lengthy...very slow getting going. The foreshadowing was too blatant, so the ending was no suprise. However, the intense parts were pretty intense, and the movie had a bit of staying power. I live in an old house with hardwood floors, so there's all the creaking and sounds...every once in a while a scene or two of the movie pops into my mind. I did find it overall entertaining, and would maybe up it a bit to a B- or maybe a B. I just wish I hadn't seen it in the theater (too many fucking teens yapping and whispering - really killed the vibe).

That is exactly what we have not seen a movie in the theater in several months. When we do, we normally wait until one of the last weeks of the movie showing when we know that the dickwads are unlikely to still be viewing the flick.

What about the people who clap at the end of a movie? You're clapping at a screen?

Ha, a few dumbasses did that at Avatar...I'm sure you noticed.
For my mom's birthday we went and watched Julie and Julia at the Fluer Cinema...older crowd. They actually gave a standing ovation.
I'm sure the guy working the projector was super proud.

I saw "The Road."
Holy fucking depression. If you read the book, you know how dark (literally and figuratively) the world it portrayed was. The movie dives right into the deep end of that pool. This is not feel-good entertainment. But if you want to know how the world would really end (not like 2012 or any of that Mad Max bullshit) with a whimper and the frailty of everything revealed at last, and the only thing that would matter if it did, this is the movie to see. Easily the best, most honest post-apocalyptic story brought to film. It really strikes home if you're a parent. Thank God for Cormac McCarthy, he is our greatest living author. I didn't think they could translate that novel to film but they pulled it off.
Underneath the complete devastation and brutality is a commentary about the essence of humanity. That's really what the story is about. Like I said, this isn't mindless entertainment. For that I'd highly recommend The Hangover. Fucking hilarious.

Speaking of depressing movies...
I watched "Revolutionary Road" with Leo and Kate Winslett...one of the most worthless movies I've seen in a long time. Plot - dsyfunctional couple. Both scandalous in their own ways. That's it.
What a turd of a movie.

I read the book, while some might call it depressing I kind of thought the opposite because it makes you appreciate the way things are right now. Definately a good, quick and easy read. I told my brother to pick it up while he was caught up in the airport all day. He said it made him want to find somewhere in the airport to shoot himself. I'll watch the movie once its out on DVD. I watched the Hangover this weekend, thought it was pretty good but not as funny as many people made it out to be. Dumb and Dumber is still the funniest movie of all time, in my opinion.

BTW...the new Sherlock Holmes movie...dunno...lots of hype...but the movie never seemed to get out of 2nd gear....I'd give it a C+ to B- I have to agree, great acting, Rachael McAdams is hot as hell, good fight scenes but the rest of the movie was a mehhhhh. Plus the ending was lame. Wait and rent it.
