Cougill did look good but he is SSSSSLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWW and won't be able to guard anybody one on one, he needs to hit the weights and lose another 20 pounds. He is going to get eaten alive in the Big Ten. He is very slow. I drove around him at the fieldhouse. I don't put the ball on the floor going towards the basket very often, most nights I don't do it at all. This is because I am very slow. For him to not be able to keep in front of me does not bode well, luckily he shouldn't have to guard too many guys away from the hoop. That said when I played with him he wasn't putting forth much effort, but nobody should have to to stay in front of me. I doubt there is anyone at the fieldhouse that could play on the team, though there are many that are better than little lick. I played with Jermaine Davis and Cole and nobody could touch those guys and they weren't trying. But I did make baskets in the middle of the paint when they were between me and the hoop, but nobody expects anyone to throw up a hook shot these days.

I posted this on Itheus' Facebook page...but just for good measure:
I went through the schedule and can see only 8 games the rest of the way that I think Iowa, from what we've seen in the first two games, has a fighting shot at winning. The rest of the games against directional schools...not including Drake and UNI...and the home games with jNWU, Penn St. and Indiana. That's about it folks. No way we win a game on the road this season.
Just be competitive! That's all I'm asking...unfortunately, I don't think we're going to see that this year.

Sadly my eligibility has run out. I didn't use it up, it just ran out. I doubt they could find use for a 5'10" 200lb post who can't defend anyone with two good legs on the perimeter anyhow.

The good news with this basketball team: . . . . . . . . We don't have to worry about getting upset by anyone.

I will still root for this team and the players. But I seriously think something is wrong in the basketball office. I am not one to get down on coaches, but I'm really starting to think Lick may not be right for IOWA Basketball.

My interest in basketball has substantially faded over the last 10 years, more each year. This could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and I might just put being a basketball fan in my rear view mirror.

I'll still try and watch every game.
Thing is...even if we do get back to decent...TL's brand of basketball is, well, kinda boring.
We need some thunderdunkin' athletes (think Acie Earl), or game changing point gaurds, like Andre Woolridge.

Even a lights out shooter like Horner, Kingsberry or Recker would go along way towards adding a bit of spice.
Thankfully we do have Tucker, He will light it up tonight. Im calling for 7 for 13 from three land and 30+ points from him tonight.
Gatens will also go off for 24 points.
Iowa wins 82 to 80.

I am not one to get down on coaches, but I'm really starting to think Lick may not be right for IOWA Basketball. I predict that in about 15 months, we will be looking for a new basketball coach. Again. I like Lick okay. I would just like him to be coaching a different team.

We looked good for 23 minutes. I think the key was that Texas made us run up and down. We looked like a decent team when we had to run a bit. When we slowed the offense down, we just passed the ball around the perimeter and forced a 3. Lick's system doesn't work at Iowa.

I think next year will answer a lot of questions, he hasn't had a full roster of players since he's been here.

The key here is that Texas discovered that we cannot stop a good big man in the paint. Once they start passing down low, game over.

Eric May looked good again, had some real quality drives that I saw. I was surprised again by Cougil. When he picked up his second foul early in the first half I figured he had a one way ticket to the bench. HE came back in and did real well playing in foul trouble. When i saw Texas, i figure his slow ass would be fouled out in the first half.
Question about Gatens: Late in the second half he started taking it to the hole hard, he had a big dunk over his man, and on the next possession he drove again and hit the floor flat on his chest, It seemed that he grabbed his left shoulder in pain, but the camera panned away and the announcers were talking gibberish and didn’t mention the play or the possible injury.
He was subbed out of the game and I don’t believe he went back in, I saw him on camera for only a split second during post game handshakes, he seemed ok. We could not afford to lose Gatens, IMHO.
Does any one have info on if he was injured or not?

No word anywhere about an injury.
How about that fucking shot by Cully Payne at the end of the half?? That made the game worth watching in itself. He has potential, but he left his feet too many times w/o knowing what to do with the ball. He's just a freshman, though.
Not trying to drink too much kool-aid, but there's so much youth on the floor...you almost have to think we could have a decent team in a couple of years...unless attrition rears its ugly head again.

How is it he can make a shot from 80 feet but can't make one from 20? I do think Lick will get next year, but it will either be do something or get the fuck out of town. He has no middle ground next year.

Fuck it, there was shit left there after Alford left and I can't imagine we're going to be able to land anyone really good anyway. Unless BJ wants the job, I say Lick stays as long as he wants the job. No sense in punishing him for the shambles that Alford left the program in. Remember when SonderGourney was our center and launching 3s when lick first came in? Even though we are losing, I am less pissed now than I was a few years ago and Lick doesn't piss me off, at least not yet.

I have to agree, look at how long it took Mac at Iowa Sate to get the program where he wanted it. Lick is going through the same thing. It's really tough to judge Lick since he hasn't had a full team since he's been here. Then throw in the fact that guys were leaving left and right. Like I said before next year will be the key year.

I have to believe that we are going to come out of the this shooting slump.
That the main issue here, our shooters aren’t making shots. Once the shots start falling a better rate, our team will have more energy, more spark, the defense will come alive and Cole will become a bigger presence once the oppositions’ defense has to open up to cover the shooters.
Our team has too many great shooters to continue this poor performance..... (god, seems like I said that all baseball season about the underperforming cubs as well....)

We can't rebound. People stand around and watch the other team collect offensive rebounds.

We can't rebound. People stand around and watch the other team collect offensive rebounds. Nailed it. Lick should tell the guys if they want to stand around and still get recognized, join the "marching" band.
