Cosign. I've handled a few claims from the NY area on a "rollover" basis when other teams are backed up. Everything is a confrontation with those people. Everything. And everyone is out to fuck them over. Such is their attitude. A good friend of mine is a claim rep for an auto insurance company. He has some pretty funny and scary stories, and he works in Eastern Iowa. He said he has feared for his life a few times with people bitching at him that he wouldn't give them more money even though they have admitted to be wrong or were filing a fraudulent claim. He even said that after they have agreed to a settlement some ask for more money. There is no way in hell I could do that job dealing with people everyday that feel that society owes them something or that somebody is always out to get them. Unfucking real some of the stories he tells me. Yeah, when I was working in Dubuque, some dipshit called into the office. This was right after the Oklahoma City bombing and I guess the guy said that if we thought the OKC bombing was something, wait until we see what happens to our office. Needless, to say, his claim settlement became the least of his problems from then on.

Yes, congratulations are in order.
My job rocked because Progressive (at the time) was a claims-driven company. When I got hired, they gave me a brand-new company car that I used for personal use as well and the company reimbursed for all gas, maintenance, etc., and provided insurance, of course. This cost me something like $45 per month to satisfy the IRS. I even drove back to Iowa once for my brother's wedding and Progressive paid for the gas.
Our training program was over two months long. We started for up to two weeks in the office doing ride-alongs with adjusters and some meaningless stuff as well as studying. Then we went to Cleveland for three weeks for classroom stuff on policies, insurance concepts, negotiations, medical stuff, etc. Then we went back to our offices for two more weeks doing ride alongs on vehicle inspections and had some classes with a trainer. Then we were back in Cleveland for three more weeks learning how to write damage appraisals.
While in Cleveland (and I went during the summer so it was fun), they gave us the choice of activities on weekends - I saw a Browns/Steelers pre-season game and sat in the dog pound, went to a comedy club, spent a day at Cedar Point amusement park, Indians games - all on the company.
Once we graduated from training and went back to our offices, Progressive kept our claims load low so we had time to actually work them and provided constant training on medical issues, fraud detection, etc. We were always taking a day or two to go to training seminars and eat for free.
Then came Prop 103............and it all came crashing down.

At my current job, they are having a hard time training enough new hires to replace the people who bolted in time to get them going before even more people bolt out the door. And then they try to solve all of this with meetings on the virtues of great customer service, blah, blah, blah....

You know what the best customer service plan is?
Happy, satisfied employees. Yes, it's a novel fucking concept I know, but perhaps someday The Corporate Geniuses(TM) will figure it out.

You know what the best customer service plan is? Happy, satisfied employees. Yes, it's a novel fucking concept I know, but perhaps someday The Corporate Geniuses(TM) will figure it out. They won't. If you're spending a million a year on comp, but half of that is going to training new hires you could do two things, one you could raise comp and try to retain people or two you could keep comp lower and keep training costs higher. When schmuck manager number 1 goes to tell his boss why comp costs are so high, he can just blame it on high training costs and shit and they can fingerfuck things by maybe lowering comp a little more and running the same quantity of work through fewer people. But if you have a steady workforce that is paid well and there is consistency year over year, the schmucks run out of shit to put in their powerpoints to demonstrate how great of managers they are. My old lady's company turns over the top guy every two years and he has to write a report about the shit he has changed and inevitably, it is some fucktard who has no clue how the operations run and he doesn't have to live with the consequences if shit goes bad - my old lady on the other hand is the one dealing with clients and shit and she has no fear of getting the axe so she's always telling these guys how fucking dumb they are, but they never fucking listen. The bigger a company is, the more it relies on bullshit like academic credentials to vest power in people. The managers think "you can't get fired for hiring the Harvard guy" but half of these guys don't know their elbows from their assholes. See, e.g., 2007-2010 economic crisis.

Word.
The woman who runs our department is an MBA, so that pretty much explains the complete cluster fuck management job being done.

Progressive had it right. They hired college graduates with good academic records (I knew several Economics majors with honors, in addition to me), they paid us well, treated us right and they were rewarded with the lowest indemnity ratio in the industry at the time. Also, at a time when insurance companies were running combined ratios of 110 or more and making money on investments, Progressive was running about 93-94, meaning they were making a profit on underwriting, which was unheard of at the time.
Do a Google search on Peter B. Lewis - he was the majority owner/CEO/Chairman of the Board and the guiding light behind that philosophy. And he is a MAJOR pothead.

Apparently young Ms. Palin is really banking on being a slut teen dumb enough not to get on birth control while riding the coattails of her mom who is quite possibly the worst political figure of all time who removes a shit ton of credibility from any conservative or right wing movement (intentional runon and poor grammar). Now she's going to be an actress as well, and a very poor one at that. Check it out: livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/06/bristol-palin-secret-life-video-.htmlAlso, the young woman who is not Palin is smoking hot, IMO.

Why's she gotta be a slut yo? lol
I can see the teen part, and the dumb part, but just cause she got prego doesn't mean she's a slut. There is a double standard in this country when it comes to males and females. I banged 15-20 chicks in high school (almost all of which came senior year). I wasn't considered a slut, I was considered normal.
Sorry, my feminism side is coming out.

Also, banking 15 to 20 chicks in one year during high school is not normal.

I have to revise my last post. This got me thinking about how many chicks I've banged. I listed them all out, to the best of my memory ... I believe I had exactly 9 during my teenage years (probably 6 my senior year). 24 total. I kind of doubt young Palin has gobbled more then 9 knobs so far. Does that qualify as slut status? This is just conversation material ... I don't really care what that dumb slut is up to or how she lives her life. On a side note, I listed out my entire sex playlist and divided them up into 3 categories: Proud Of Impartial What the Fuck was I Thinking? I found the following percentages: Proud Of - 33% Impartial - 29% What the Fuck was I Thinking? - 38% I think I can handle that ratio. Good thing I started strong, cause I had some head scratchers in my later years.

I will be the first to agree that what gets people famous these days is pretty F'ing sad, and the amount of money that the queen of talentless cum buckets Paris Hilton makes is crazy and who I think started this phenomenon. #2. I am ashamed to admit that my wife watches that show, I have seen a bit here or there when I have come into the room when she is watching it, the "high school" girls on that show are hot as hell, the entire show is about sex and they are all horrible actors. So Bristol should fit right in. I am surprised that show is on ABC Family, I wouldn't let my daughter watch that crap. Part of the reason why these talentless hacks keep getting jobs is people that love them will watch and people that hate them will watch as well. Do you ever wonder why Sarah Palin is still in the news so much? Because she gets ratings, why I have no clue but for as many people that love her there are just as many that hate her that will tune in to her as well.

"The cultural embrace of illusion, and the celebrity culture that has risen up around it, have accompanied a growing system of casino capitalism, with its complicated and unregulated deals of turning debt into magical assets to create fictional wealth for us, and vast wealth for our elite. Corporations, behind the smoke screen, have ruthlessly dismantled and destroyed our manufacturing base and impoverished our working class. The free market became our god and government was taken hostage by corporations, the same corporations that entice us daily with illusions through the mass media, the entertainment industry, and popular culture."
Well ... I certainly agree with this. I'll have to put this one on my list. My list is up to like 50 books, so it may take a bit.
