Man, another sign of getting older. There was a group of us that went out Saturday night, hit up the Hessen Haus, Royal Mile, El Bait Shop...got pretty sloshed. Nothing crazy, but enough to be hurting yesterday. I didn't get off the couch too much except to grill out. Now today I'm still feeling the effects. I don't physically hurt, but I am just 'blah', and am mentally hungover. I've slowed my weekend partying pretty significantly over the last couple of years....it may become non-existent if this keeps up! Anybody else deal with this shit?

I am thoroughly versed in the 2 day hangover phenomenom. It sucks. Drinking isn't as much fun as it used to be. But it's still just fun enough to keep talking myself into it.

I know how you feel and I rarely go there, it just kicks my ass too much. Anymore I get to my " happy place " and then stop drinking for the night. I'm also finding that I can't stay out very late anymore, once 10pm nears I get really sleepy.

7 or 8 years back a Friday night of mas tequila resulted in no solid food until Sunday night.
Saturday may or may not have involved functional consciousness.
I haven't been hammered since. Left an impression.

I feel like I would find Adam Sandler movies mentally stimulating today.

I feel like I would find Adam Sandler movies mentally stimulating today. You might want to see your physician.

I think you guys are right. I can drink several beers and feel absolutely fine the next day but my body just can't take the raging night of boozing it like it did five or ten years ago. It's still fun, but every once in a while you get carried away and it starts to get a little pointless. I had a good time Saturday but honestly I don't remember much of it. Things started getting a little cloudy after leaving the Royal Mile, I remember Shorty's, vaguely remember El Bait Shop and I left to go back to Shorty's because I left my debit card there. Then I walked to Surb's place to crash on the couch but he wasn't there so me and Mrs. Itheus went downtown to get him and she kindly gave me a ride home. I don't remember talking to thejesus, Stu Kat, or Mrs. thejesus when I got home. It's really just kind of pointless at that level of intoxication.
I was still out of it enough mentally to justify only working 4 hours today, got a bunch of shit done that I was too lazy to do yesterday. Feeling good and back to normal now. I know there will be some form of debauchery next weekend, but I'm surely going to make an more of an effort to pace myself.

If it’s any consolation, I had a pretty damn good time Saturday night. I don’t remember seeing you after the Royal Mile, or maybe the High Life. We ended up at the Front Row, and I was drinking Vodka. I’m surprised I didn’t end up in jail.

Wait till you have a kid. I know the thought of dealing with mine hungover is enough to keep me from drinking too much (most of the time ;D)

In my younger days....(30's and 40's)....I'd crush alcohol until the wee hours, get up, take a shower and all was good until about 5 pm...then I'd be hurtin.
Now-a-days....if I'm going to over-indulge, I have a fool proof anti-hangover remedy (yes....this works).
Before retiring...
#1--Full glass of water #2--200 - 600mg of ibuprofen #3--1-2 extra strength tylenol
Fellas, I won't bore you with the chemsitry of why this works, but it does. You'll keep the hangover hounds at bay and will feel 1000% better. Try it.

Wait till you have a kid. I know the thought of dealing with mine hungover is enough to keep me from drinking too much (most of the time ;D) I can attest to this. Normally, all you have to deal with is feeling shitty (when you have a hangover). Now, I have to deal with feeling shitty and feeling guilty for being a bad parent. Pretty crazy how my life has changed in the last 10 years. 10 years ago, I drank probably 5 days a week (hard) on average. Now, I probably average 1 hard drinking night a month, and 3 normal drinking nights.

I'd substitute something else, it's not worth the risk. That kind of liver failure is a horrible way to die. Adequate hydration is the real key to hangover avoidance. I usually try to pair at least 8 oz of water for every drink, and if I'm overserved, I down a quart of Gatorade before retiring. However, as Hoffa alluded, fatherhood has essentially killed my alcohol consumption. I'm lucky to have two beers in a week.

I don't even drink five nights a month now. And that's like one beer. Was law school hard? Fuck, who knows! Kids are good for the liver.

During the occasional binger, you can take a tylenol without any worries.

It's pathetic. 4-5 and I'm fine, 6 is my " happy place ", of course it depends on what kind of beer I'm drinking, if it's liqour, 3 toddies and I'm doing fine, anything from that point is just stupid in my case. I put a fridge in my man shed last summer, I grill out a lot, at least 2-3 nights a week, I'm drinking every time the grill is lit and I'm cooking. Winter time I'm usually pretty dry unless I'm ice fishing, then that calls for at least 6 every outing, I usually keep the whiskey bottle in the shack all winter and just tote water bottles w/ me.

Hey Seth- not to hijack here, but what the fuck ever happened to those "Chaser" pills you used to be able to get? They worked great for me and I used them religiously for tailgaters until a few years ago when I could not find them anymore. What's the deal?

They worked great for me and I used them religiously for tailgaters until a few years ago when I could not find them anymore. What's the deal? You can still buy them on line...they used to be available at CVS. They are classified as food supplements, meaning they contain vitamins, carbon and other minerals (dextrose, L-Glutamine and vitamin C for example). Not sure why they work because the labeling to what they might also contain is vague. I know for sure my water/motrin/tylenol cocktail works.

I guess the words "liver toxin" kind of freak me out. Perhaps irrationally.

Since the twins have been born (5 months) I have been drunk a total of one time. A college golf outing a couple of weeks ago, had about a 12 pack and felt like shit all day Sunday. Other then that I think I average about 2 beers a week. I do however need to start drinking more to get myself prepared for football season!
