Though I may have to change my tune as I was reminded that son Steven is actually walking on next fall. What a breath of fresh air. This fall. He is already on the team. Both his other son's were multiple year starters at Center, I don't have a problem at all with them being on scholarship. Now if you wanted to bring up the section 8 housing deal I would agree 100% with you on that. That should have never happened.

Iowa BB should be the opposite of Iowa FB: Exciting and entertaining while simultaneously victorious.
What kid wouldn't want to play for a guy like Fran? He puts them in a position to succeed.

It doesn't bother me that Brian and now James had scholarships as multiple-year starters. Someone with more knowledge than me can chime in, but I believe there are certain aspects of training, nutrition, etc., that only scholarship athletes get.

I never understood this line of thinking, if Brian is qualified for the job (and so far seems to be doing a damn fine job) who gives a fuck if he's KF's son? Honestly, who cares? Now if he hired him from working at Hy-Vee than I would agree. Once again just seems like something else for people to use to bitch about KF. Don't get me wrong there are a ton of things that I think he has fucked up on over the years but hiring his qualified son to be on his coaching staff sure as hell isn't one of them. Especially since something this staff needed was some younger blood. I also think that being KF's son allows him to say shit to KF that other coaches wouldn't be able to do. Like "hey dad, you need to pull your head out of your ass we just lost to Central Fucking Michigan." My feeling has more to do with schollies for his kids than anything. (which I guess isn't quite the definition of 'nepotism' but you get my drift) Though I may have to change my tune as I was reminded that son Steven is actually walking on next fall. What a breath of fresh air. Brian and James both deserve the scholarships they got or are getting. Just because their dad could afford to pay for them doesn't mean shit. There are a ton of extra benefits that a scholarship player gets over walk on's which doesn't just help that player but the team as a whole.

Bumpin' this bitch, yo. Sumthin' positive to talk about. Should be a fun year! I just hope people dont start jumping ship if this team struggles. They are still young and I'm worried some people out there think this is a sweet 16 team

I am just looking for improvement and fun. If they actually make the tournament, that would be awesome, but I have no unrealistic expectations this year.

I'm really looking forward to this year, especially after this shit show football season.
My only expectations for this year are some sort of post-season (probably NIT), and a fun team to watch.

Last year I wanted to finish over .500 We did that by one game which was awesome. I was able to attend the NIT win and that was gravy on top.
I would be happy this year with 19 to 20 wins and to be at minimum a bubble team for the NCAA. IF we make the tourney that I will be thrilled.

I agree. If we even get mentioned as a "bubble watch" team, I would be pleased.
And I will admit that I initially supported Lickliter, but my God was he a horrible coach. To think about what Fran has done with the stink brick he was given.... he is one hell of a coach.

Man, I cannot wait for basketball to start so I can get the taste out of my mouth left by the football team.
I wonder if Fran will offer to help KF pack up his shit?

I also supported Lickliter up to the time that Gatens threatened to transfer and Jon Miller flipped the script and did a special on his old radio program about why Licklighter needed to go. Thank jeebus that Licklighter was boooooted. Two years ofFranball and it feels that the basketball program decline has been thwarted and we are taking serious steps forward? This would not have happened under licklighter. Yay Basketball!

I was a supporter of TL as a new coach. It took me about half of the first season to realize that this was a mistake. By the second season, I only watched a handful of games and after about the halfway point of that season, I never watched another TL-coached Hawkeye game.
The basketball program is also my answer to those who belittle people who want KF gone, but do not have an answer for who they want as coach. I had never heard of the Franimal, but I sure am happy that he's ours now.

I knew Lick had to go on Dec 31, 2008. Iowa was playing Ohio State and only down by maybe 6 points with about 4 minutes to go.
During a timeout, Lick spent the ENTIRE timeout telling Little Johnny jokes or some such shit to one of refs, laughing, carrying on.... and NOT COACHING THE TEAM!!!
I was fucking pissed. Sucking as a coach is one thing- bailing on your team is another.

Now we can officially switch the sports talk on this board to something more positive.
I predict 23 wins this season counting the B1G tourney. Prolly lose in first round of NCAAs, but still a nice move in the right direction overall!

They have looked worse than I was expecting but they should continue to get better and better. Tuesday at Vatech is a big game. Need to find a way to win that

Early in the season and still a pretty young team. I agree that we should be able to watch this team grow and get better as this season progresses. Getting the win against Va Tech would be a nice resume builder. And I will add that this team and coaching staff is far and away better than the one that gets all of the attention so no.... not worried one bit.

I'll be back in Iowa for the holidays this year. Was thinking of going to the iowa Indiana game on NYE. Anyone else going to this game? And any info on tickets would be appreciated. Stub hub has them for 80 bucks.Would think they'd be cheaper than that.

It would be fitting for Iowa to draw Hightower for the Indiana game and have ol Steady Eddie hand us the game and then for us to shit the bed the rest of the season. Alternatively, I could see Steady Eddie deciding he was going to teach Hoodbury a lesson and give him 3 fouls 30 seconds into the game. Remember when he fucking called Marble for palming like 3 times in a row in his freshman season? Eddie has to let everyone know he is in charge.
