Three Tim Floyds would be totes welcome in N Carolina. Last year marked the widespread arrival of Jolly Pumpkin, which made me very happy (but their shit is awfully spendy). New Belgium is already here, as is Lagunitas and several other choice brands. Put these on top of the excellent local craft brewing scene, and Charlotte is a goddam sweet spot to be in.

Leinie's Canoe Paddler is pretty darn good.....I haven't had many Kolsch beers. I like Leinenkugel's, and fuck anyone who doesn't like that......... I got some of this and out of the bottle it was pretty good but once I poured it into a glass ..... rye. Dammit.

Got suckered into purchasing a Coney Island Sword Swallower on my way to the train last night. They got 'em all lined up so you can't get to your train without walking past 'em so I had to try one. It was mediocre and it cost nine fucking bucks for a bottle.

Don't know how it is in BTR's Chicagoland but in the NYC metro area you can drink beer or wine in bottles on the commuter trains. Most of the little restaurants and hot dog stands sell it right up front and put it in a bag as you rush to the train. Amtrak/Acela sells beer and wine on regional trains and at one time you could get cocktails, too.

Yesterday while grocery shopping I impulse-bought two beers I'd never tasted. Henry Weinhard's Woodland Pass IPA and Barrel Trolley IPA. Both are middle of the road at best. The Barrel Trolley has a slighly foul aroma. #disappointed

However, during Lollapalooza and 4th of July they don't allow booze on the late trains because there have been too many pass outs and fights. The train beer is one of the greatest things ever, though. My train ride is between 17 and 22 minutes and with a brew pop the time just flies by.

In New Yorkie, you could get a 16 oz can for $2 and a 24 oz can for $4. Which made no sense bince for your $4 you could get two 16 ouncers.

There is a CVS with a bunch of 22 and 24 ounce cans and bottles for around $3. You can go into the Freedom Market and go to Pastoral and get a tall can of Stiegl for $3.36. There is a Belgian Beer and Frites shop in there that has a bunch of Belgian stuff (including a Trolls product) (http://www.frenchmarketchicago.com/vendor/frietkoten). There is also now a place called Ovie that has a bunch of brews, various sizes and prices. And then upstairs there are two bars with pretty wide selections, but 12 ouncers up there are Chicago bar market prices, so a Bell's is like $7 or $8 (but I only shop there when the downstairs is closed).

Hmmm. Sounds complicated for the average commuter. In NY Penn Station, you typically were rushing for your train and literally had just enough time to yell out what you wanted as you approached the counter, grabbed your bag and plunked down two or four bucks.

That's fine if you want swill beer that costs $2 for a 16 ouncer. I don't drink that crap anymore. There is robust competition for beer sales and the new place has a big cart right on the path in, so it takes 15 seconds to get a beer, but they ain't schlepping Budweiser or anything like that there. I always allow myself an extra 5 minutes when I want a beer (and in order to ensure I get a seat) and I have found that to be plenty of time to get something I want to drink.

Founders All Day IPA sucks............there I said it. Yeah, not too impressed. That said it isn't supposed to be your typical IPA which is generally not very sessionable.

I like Mickey's because with the big mouth you can chug it down so fast the taste buds don't have time to reject it.

One time, before a 5AM flight to Mexico for spring break, we decided to play a drinking game with Mickeys. Drink every time they say Woody or Buzz in Toy Story. Well what do ya know, that didn't go so great and that flight sucked. I haven't had mickeys since. I have, however, watched Toy Story again. They say those names a bunch.

One time I bet a guy in a bar that I could drink a shot of beer a minute for one hour without parking my cookies or passing out. I could drink more than that - which I did - but I had to drink one shot at the top of every minute. I made it 55 minutes before I had a tragic accident right at the bar. I felt sorry for my girlfriend the bartender because she had to clean up the mess as I went out to the car and passed out.

What kind of beer was it? If it was Hopslam then no big deal.
