I fucking loathe the Yankees, respect Jeter for what he did over his career and the ending last night did indeed work out perfectly.
All that said if the Orioles aren't already in the playoffs there isn't a chance in hell that Showalter pitches to him. Hell, I think the only reason why he did was because of it being his last AB in Yankee stadium as no matter if it's the first game of the year or the last every person with half a brain knows that you walk him with 1st base being open.
So all the Yankee fans can jerk off that Jetes got his story book ending but just know that it should have never happened. And I am sure 99% of Yankee fans don't realize that this is the case. (Because most know nothing about baseball)
I am not saying that the pitcher threw him a belt high fast ball but you walk that guy it's baseball 101.

Well, Jeter has been intentionally walked zero times this year in 630 plate appearances. He had been 0-30 or so the week before this. The Orioles actually still have a shot at the best record in the league. And, for his previous AB, Showalter had brought in a righty to face Jeter (a lefty had pitched to Gardner). So, I don't think they walk Jeter to face McCann and Tex, but that's my 2 cents (and, I watch too much baseball). The mistake was the belt high fast ball to start the at bat, but Jeter is known to take the 1st pitch a lot. I do question the choice of pitcher for the bottom of the 9th, but that's how baseball managers manage now a days (only pitch best reliever when have the lead in bottom of 9th).

It doesn't matter if he's 0-50 you don't have him hit. McCann is going to hit irregardless if Jeter gets on or not. Tie game, One out, runner on second, you absolutely walk the batter to create a force out at every base but home, but more importantly to set up a double play to get your ass out of the inning. Jeter's run means nothing the only guy that matters is the guy standing on 2nd. I don't give a shit what anybody says that is about as easy a baseball decision as it comes. And I don't give a shit who is coming up to the plate next you walk that guy when in that situation.

Well, if you think they pitched to Jeter to give him a chance for the storybook ending, I don't see it. The numbers and splits say pitch to the righty or walk Jeter and bring in Britton to pitch to McCann/Tex. Why do you think Girardi had Garnder sacrifice bunt the runner to 2nd? Because he knew they would pitch to Jeter. Unless it's Miggy or Trout, no manager walks the righty (Jeter) with a righty on the mound to get to the lefty (McCann) unless a lefty is up in the bullpen. It just doesn't happen.

srs baseball discussion is srs Sorry, I like baseball. And, it is a good discussion. I see both sides. I hope Derp isn't offended. By the way, if Showalter had the pitcher walk Jeter in that situation, twitter shuts down, Yankee Stadium implodes, and Showalter doesn't make it out of there alive.
