Fun game to watch last night. Who needs Edmonds? Reed Johnson with two web gems and two RBI. Agreed. Though Lou craves that lefty power bat, so here's hoping Edmonds pans out in his mind, so Hendry can focus on PITCHING at the trading deadline rather than a non-need. I think I just made a word up. Non-need. Does this qualify me to run for President?

If Dubya made Prez with his amazing public speaking abilities, I'm sure this qualifies you to run.

2 out of 3 from the Cards! Anyone know when Soriano is due back in the line-up?

I believe it will probably be after the All Star break. I find it hard to believe that the Cubs would allow him to play in the All Star game, so my guess is next Thursday.

Cubs get Rich Harden from the A's. I don't know much about him, but he is young with a career WHIP of only 1.24 (1.14 this year) and a BAA of .244 (.206). We got him and Chad Gaudin, a bullpen pitcher/spot starter for Gallagher, Murton, Patterson and Josh Donaldson. blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/07/cubs-moves-in-t.html Rich Harden has been injury plagued most of his career. This could be a real bust of a trade for the Cubbies giving up at 3 decent prospects for an-iffy starter.

This could be a real bust of a trade for the Cubbies giving up at 3 decent prospects for an-iffy starter. The only "iffy" part is his health. When healthy, he's arguably the best pitcher in MLB. He was on the DL earlier this year, but has looked good since, save for a little bit of a rough start last time out. Keep in mind, if Harden needs to skip a start or two between now and the end of the season, that's absolutely fine. The Cubs don't need a horse they can ride down the stretch, like Milwaukee with CC or whomever the Cardinals will deal for. This move, as was/is Milwaukee's, is a move for October. In a 7 game series you'll see Z and Harden twice, more than likely, with Dempster and/or Lilly thrown in as well. I like our chances there. The reliever we got along with Harden, Chad Gaudin, is pretty solid as well, and capable of making a spot start if need be. It's really a win/win situation for the Cubs all the way around.

Although I like most of your analysis, I do believe the "arguably the best pitcher in baseball" is an over-statement and the "win/win situation" is much too early to call. We will see how it plays out. Go Cards......your girlfriend is hot just for being a Redbird fan.

Well played lp, well played.
A little early for "win/win", I suppose you could say that...and I don't totally disagree with it.
And I'm not sure he's the most talented pitcher in MLB when healthy, but without a doubt, he's in the argument...thus "arguably."

Actually, my wife is a life-long Cubs fan, so she married up. Cards/Cubs series are a lot of fun in our house.

She's not a diehard by any stretch of the imagination, but she's already told me there will be no converting her to a Cubs fan. She likes to tease me a lot, to which I generally respond "I'm sorry. I can't hear your taunts from 4.5 games away".

My GF is a White Sox fan. It is fun to go back and forth a little, even though she doesn't keep all that up on things (she is a girl). I think I am converting her a little though.

Really not the way I wanted to come out of the break. Hopefully getting Soriano back tonight will give the offense a boost!!

I don't recall saying anything about Hawk Harrelson....this is a cubs thread. Earlier there was a Hawk thread, I would have posted there had I been talking about him. I was just saying that Brenly is an arrogant prick.

I've never even heard of Jay Randolph. A quick Google search says he broadcasts golf on XM. For the sake of putting gas in my tank and food on my table, I do not listen to XM or Sirrius. And curses upon you and your household if you do...
