With the schedule we have, this should be the year Kurt takes us to milk & honey...
2014 August 30 Northern Iowa (FF) September 6 Ball State 13 Iowa State (Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series) 20 at Pittsburgh 27 at Purdue October 4 Bye 11 Indiana (Homecoming) 18 at Maryland 25 Bye November 1 Northwestern (FW) 8 at Minnesota 15 at Illinois 22 Wisconsin 28 Nebraska (Hy-Vee Heroes Game) (S)
This is the easiest schedule since Chuck was in diapers. Sports Illustrated curse happens before the Minny game. Long-haired CJ on the cover...
Season unravels like a Chinese made tricycle bell.

We have got to have one of the easiest schedules in the country, but Kurt always shits the bed with those. I'm worried. Too early for my predictions, but I am 98% certain we will drop a non-con game, be it to Pitt or ISU. Hell, Ball State is in the MAC, aren't they? It wouldn't be a Ferentz-esque season without a MAC loss. I really think we lose to Pitt, though. If I'm not mistaken, Ferentz has lost every September BCS road game outside the state of Iowa save for that triple OT Syracuse game.

Syracuse...I vaguely remember a goal line stand and a a changing of the guard at QB. It was a dark bar and i was knocking em down w/$20 on the line. Silver Strike. Put 80 marbles in my pocket as I was watching Norm at the helm.

I think the problem here is not making the assumption that the schedule is so easy, but making the assumption that he Hawks are going to be good enough to beat most of these teams, because those teams suck.
You just never know.

We should be 10-0 with that schedule before we really have a "Tough" game in all honesty. But knowing Careful Kurt and the shit that happens, we'll drop 3 games and be 7-3 going into the last 2 games because of stupid shit and the players sucking a big fat one.
Still, I'll hold out hope, because that is the eternal Cub fan in me and to hope that this will be the year only to be let down, once again.

I'm concerned our weak non conference schedule will keep us out of the playoffs.

20 September 2014, a sunny Saturday afternoon, life seems pretty good. Chillin', watching some college FB, trying not to get too emotionally involved, because what's the point? About 00:45 before halftime of the Iowa @ Pitt game. Hokks are down by 10 but have the ball on their own 39, 1st down. Two short out routes and a Weisman carry off left guard fail to garner another 1st down; it's now 4th & 1, ball on the IA 48. 00:16 shows on the clock. Kurt signals in to Rudeock to take a knee. My phone rings. I see by caller ID that it is OK4P. I answer, "LOL dude WTF." I am greeted by what sounds like someone pounding their head against a wall. I hear additional muffled sounds, something about "at least O'Keefe would have...(unintelligible)...Davis!...(wharrgrrbl)..." The connection is terminated. The odds of the above scenario happening essentially verbatim are about 1:1. I think the odds are zero that Okeefe would call anyone on this board....'cept maybe 101.

In grand Iowa fashion we will lose one of the following games: Purdue, Indiana or Maryland lose one of the following games: NW, Minny, or Illinois lose one of the following games: Wisconsin or Nebby 9-3 back to Tampa to get curb stomped by an SEC team that doesn't have as shitty as an O as LSU. It will then be an off season of woulda, coulda, shoulda. Honestly, with what we have coming back anything more than 2 losses would be a massive fucking fail. We have a good shot to be favored in all of our games.

We have a good shot to be favored in all of our games. Again, too early for full predictions, so this is just preliminary, but I still don't think we have a QB and competent enough offense to win a lot of games. I also think the defensive losses are going to be pretty big. We will lose to Pitt and/or ISU, we will definitely lose to Indiana, we will definitely drop one of NU and Minnesota, maybe both, and we'll probably lose to both of Wisconsin and Nebraska. I likely won't call for a losing regular season record, but I think 6-6 or 7-5 is about where we'll land at this point. Really, the only way we win 8+ games is if we have just totally stellar QB play or just get every fucking bounce. I think the o-line will be good enough for us to hammer some teams when it gets cold, but while the weather is still nice, I think we're gonna be really susceptible to marginal teams. The linebacker turnover is gonna make for some LONG games when we play against decent spread offenses. We see it every fucking time the LB corps turns over, we saw it in 2006 after Hodge and Greenway graduated, we saw it in 2010 after Edds and Angerer graduated and we will see it again in 2014 after last year's pretty damned corps graduated (it is a viscous 4 year cycle, guys, and even a good d-line can't cover it up). That's not to say this year's LB crew isn't going to be good, but our base 4-3 requires LBs to have a 6th sense for where they need to be and it takes at least a year or two for that to develop. I sure did like what I saw out of the young guys last year in their limited situations, but it is tough to be the every down guy out there who has to cover the slot guy or TE and play run support for over 50 plays a game.

I get what you are saying about the loss at LB, but I think our d-coordinator is pretty competent and will make some adjustments against the spread teams. The Pitt game is an automatic loss, but we'll rip off a good number of wins before it gets cold.

Now let's guess the margin of victory over teh clowns. I say 9. I will take the over there. We are going to run the ball don't their DLless throat and hit a couple of home run balls. Lazzard ends the day with 1 catch for 6 yards and cyclown nation is left in tears dat der home town boy isn't as great as they thought he was going to be. I think we win by at least 10-14 points.

True impact freshmen wide receivers are very rare. Dez Bryant had 6 TDs, for example. Braylon Edwards barely played. 5 star WR Benn over at Illinois had 2 TDs. If Clownfan expects anything out of Lazard as a freshman, they are funna be disappointed.
