Any car mechanics here? Symptom- funny clunking noise when first stepping in the brakes. While driving there's a knock knock knock knock sound that suddenly starts and stops. While stepping on the gas, the noise is less but if you coast then there's a vibration humming noise....that stops when you step on the breaks to slow down or stop but once you step on the gas, it starts all over.
Just had the sway bars replaced less than two weeks ago as one was broken. When I pulled out of the repair shop I heard a really loud clinking sound for several seconds and then it was gone. I blamed it on the road construction that I had just pulled into but deep down my first instinct was that a bolt or something had come off and was being flung around the wheel or something....like when you hit a squirrel and it takes a few rotations on your tire before it falls to the road.
It really seems brake related since the noise stops when I step on the brakes...so I don't think it's a struck brake caliper...but ima girl so what do I know. Figures this would happen as we are supposed to be going out of town now.
Fuckin cars.

Take back to the dealership and have them fix. Sounds like the problem is part of the repair.

Stuck caliper iz my bet. Does one of the wheels feel extraordinarily hot after you've driven for a few minutes? Actually the rotor was very hot. I had pulled over to check the tire pressure and touched the rotor while looking at it. But I didn't smell anything burning... Like brakes.

Does it stop right when you hit the brakes or, does it stop as you're decelerating by using steady braking? Does it hum/vibrate as you accelerate?

Caliper can compress but can't release all the way.

Seems like a simple fix to me. Drive it to Dodge, park it downtown with keys in it and all your problems will soon go away.

You put 17k miles on your car a year? My god. Actually it was more than that the first five years. Our other vehicle was a 2 seater pick up. With four kids it didn't get much use for family driving so the van took the hit on milage. Crazy amount of miles driving just in town.... Plus frequent trips to Iowa City. The pick up was replaced with a extended cab tundra so the milage has evened out and is quite a bit less now.

You put 17k miles on your car a year? My god. I put 25K per on mine Bought mah car the day we shat the bed against Badgers in 2010 and really got the downward trajectory going. Drove it today and noted 11,355 miles on it. I would guess 7,000 of the miles have been logged going to Iowa.

So...I took the van in yesterday and the guy called a little while later to say that all he had to do was tighten the lugnuts on the front tires, a quarter of a turn, and the noise went away....I don't hear it. Do you think it's BS?

Just watched two videos where the cars had this symptom. Exact same sounds. Guess that was it.

My sister had to have her lugnuts tightened and the guy who did it forgot to refill the tire fluid after and two days later her front tire caught on fire because the fluid was so low.

It's up to the motorist to make sure their tire fluid is at a safe level.
