My 22" Sony Trineton no longer has a picture. Sound only. It was purchased in 1989 in Augsberg West Germany. It could switch between the hi def of the European signal and the crappy American signal.
It was our gateway to America while we lived there, watching Armed Forces TV. Hours and hours of cartoons, the Today show, and reruns of syndicated TV shows. Saw the Berlin Wall come down on the news on that TV.
The TV moved with us to four states after we left Germany. Iowa, Kansas, Indiana and Minnesota, it's final home. We only cheated with another TV similar to it ... A Philips, but everyone still preferred the picture on the smaller Sony. We got the ultimate new TV in the family room two years ago...a 65" Panasonic plasma, but still, we kept on using the sony. It had the prime location. Upstairs in the living room and on a table where you could turn it to the dining table to watch modern family or MLB or NCIS. My favorite was watching Charlue Rose on the morning show on CBS.
It hadn't been doing well the last few months. We knew the end was near. You would turn it on and the picture would only be a stripe in the middle of he screen, but as ol' Sony woke up, the picture would expand and fill the screen with glorious color . The audio is still fine so we could turn to a music station and just listen to that. My kids are being disrespectful and are demanding we just go out and buy another TV. After all the Disney videos that have watched on that thing, you'd think they wouldn't treat like a grandparent that can't remember who try are...
Forgive all the spelling errors...I am having trouble seeing clearly...
Edit: corrected the year we got the TV. 1989 not 1998

My condolences, Freaky. I remember that tv well...I aspired to owning one back in the day. I was still using this, which was a hand me down from my folks... I had a console TV like that when I first moved out, laker. It had been my families and it had broke when I was about 12. My dad figured it would cost a lot to fix so he never got it fixed. When I moved out at 18, they said if I paid to get it fixed I could have it. I paid for a repairman to come to the house and it cost me $50. My older sister and younger sister and brother were soooo pissed that I got to take that TV after it was fixed.

Is the betamax unit still going strong, Ginghurrr? I never went the Betamax route, Chuck. My VCR has been broke for two years now. We have a lot of videos. Don't know what to so with them.

Couldn't really go anywhere unless he had clearance. We were barely surviving financially, there, so that sucked. My oldest was two and my second daughter was born there. Food was good.for sure.

Back in the day when you didn't need furniture to hold up the TV. The TV was the fucking furniture. Also, Eazy E much be a fan of that particular unit, since it has sideways handles, and they're very, very low.

You could put a lot of Home Interior Decor on there. A nice vase. Some framed pics, a runner that matched the drapes.
