I have to wonder how many of these guys walk away from their brief interlude with the NFL with no more money in their pocket than they started with. I would guess most.

I have to wonder how many of these guys walk away from their brief interlude with the NFL with no more money in their pocket than they started with. I would guess most. These guys are used to not having much money. They get the largest paycheck of their life and start buying everything they always wanted. Then tax time comes.

I have to wonder how many of these guys walk away from their brief interlude with the NFL with no more money in their pocket than they started with. I would guess most. The sad part is they give the rookies all sorts of budgeting and money management training but most still end up bankrupt. Some ways it is completely mind boggling that it happens and in other ways it makes total sense. That said I give NFL players a bigger pass than NBA players. If you make it to your second contract in the NBA you are making serious bank with the guaranteed contracts. In the NFL, not so much. They also tend to pick horrible advisors that have no interest in their long term financial health and are just looking to get paid.

I have to wonder how many of these guys walk away from their brief interlude with the NFL with no more money in their pocket than they started with. I would guess most. Here is what the Pats paid their undrafted free agents last year: espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4743149/closer-look-at-rookie-free-agent-dealsLooks liek if you don't make the team, you're going home with a jersey, some stories and "Glory Days" playing in your head on a continuous loop. A guy who sticks for a year is gonna get league minimum, which is $420k, and your signing bonus, which is dick for late round picks or udfas, but mah guess is most of these geniuses are functionally insolvent within 6 weeks of getting cut. Let us take Christian Ballard. I met a fella a few weeks ago who is a friend of a friend of Mr. Ballard. It seems that X-tian got into a little skirmish with one of his chums during practice and didn't take too kindly to his treatment with the team, so he left. He had received some funds from his team and a signing bonus, but surprise, surprise, 'twas all gone at the moment X-tian walked out. His team wanted the signing bonus back bince he quit and said "dafuq is mah money?" and he said "I ain't got any" so they sued him and then he lawyered up and countersued under the concussion suit or whatever the fuck it is. Sounds liek he's actually in a worse position having gone into the NFL.

Interesting find on the free agents. I thought even the undrafted guys had more cash to burn through than that.

Interesting find on the free agents. I thought even the undrafted guys had more cash to burn through than that. I think this year each team gets liek $80k in signing bonuses for udfas and I think the guaranteed salaries count against the cap. Together, those are designed to keep teams from picking up every single decent UDFA.

Interesting find on the free agents. I thought even the undrafted guys had more cash to burn through than that. That is why it is such a big deal to make a 53 man roster. During camp and the preseason players get some money but not very much. Obviously the guys drafted or signing new contracts get their signing bonuses but as OK4P pointed out if you are just invited to camp you don't get much more than a couple grand for a signing bonus and a little extra during camp for meal money. Benefits for rookies don't start until the first game either.

Old story from May, bince JM is still with the Pats as far as I know, still, nigga earning $5,000 a day as an UDFA... On Friday, the New England Patriots signed Iowa linebacker James Morris as an undrafted free agent. On Tuesday, they announced he was released from the team.
In the four days in between, he made $20,000.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots released Morris with a failed physical designation. Since he likely had to pass the physical to sign with the team, he may have suffered an injury in his short time with the team.
Reiss reports that "the Patriots had signed Morris to a contract that included a $10,000 signing bonus and $10,000 in guaranteed base salary. That $20,000 investment ranks tied for third highest among the team's undrafted players, which shows the club had some level of expectation that Morris would stick around a bit."
www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2014/05/report_patriots_paid_lb_james_morris_20000_for_fou.htmlWith that kind of money, he could put a DP on a 1,800 sq' palace out in Solon and live liek a king the rest of his life.

I wonder how much money Sash has? Is he back in Oskaloosa still? My guess little if any at all. I would guess with his two years in the league salary plus signing bonus and playoff/superbowl bonus he was right around $1 million or a little more. That's before- Agent's cut $100K positive drug test fine Living the high life in NYC and then spending money on the most idiotic business- Dash of Sash I would guess under $100K if that.

But he'd still be on the Giants if he: Wasn't small. Wasn't an asshole. Didn't take a PED. Had NFL skill level. I can't wait for the "where are they know" segment in 10 years. I actually think he would still be in the NFL if he didn't take the PED's. Solid back up and special team's player. Hell Matt Bowen was in the league for lik 7 years.
