Too young to remember Bob Cummings? A guy in our office played for Frank Lauterbur. He coached right before Cummings and had the stellar record of 4-28 in his 3 years at Iowa. Including 0-11 in his last year. I worked with a guy that played for Burns and Nagel. I may have seen him play when I went to a game at the age of 8. All I really remember was the electricity of the crowd.

Why do you care so much? It's just my mood. Don't concern yourself with things you can't change.
Don't be too concerned about your under ware.
However, a mood thread is something to consider
It puts the derp in the thread, or else it gets the bodyslam again...

Jerry Burns was a miserable prick. Well, I can not speak to that on a personal level. However, based on my limited information he is alive and doing fine. Some day I would like to hear him talk about those days.

A guy in our office played for Frank Lauterbur. He coached right before Cummings and had the stellar record of 4-28 in his 3 years at Iowa. Including 0-11 in his last year. Ducky Lewis was as hell of coach and so was Frank. There has never been a bad hire. Erk can dream dat Barta has the balls that Bump did- From Frank's wiki page- The 1973 season was a disaster. Iowa finished with the worst record in school history. The Hawkeyes lost all 11 games in 1973 to finish the year 0–11. The only other winless season in Iowa history occurred in 1889, their inaugural campaign, when they lost the only game they scheduled that year. Despite the 0–11 record, Lauterbur had two years left on a five-year contract, and Elliott considered retaining him. Iowa fans were unhappy with Lauterbur, obviously, but they were more unhappy with defensive coordinator Ducky Lewis. Lewis' defensive units, so spectacular at Toledo, were horrible at Iowa. In 1973, Iowa yielded 401 points on the season, the most in school history. In addition, Lewis was notoriously profane in public, which embarrassed and appalled several fans. That might be tolerated if Iowa was winning, but not at 0–11. Elliott approached Lauterbur about firing Lewis as defensive coordinator. Lauterbur refused, stating that he had to have full control of his staff and that it was his right, not Elliott's, to hire and fire assistant coaches. Elliott agreed, but then reminded Lauterbur that it was his right, as athletic director, to hire and fire head football coaches by relieving him of his duties as Iowa head coach.Lauterbur's loyalty to his assistant backfired, as now Lauterbur and Lewis were both out of a job.

If only. Chalmers was awesome. Best AD, and by a wiiiide margin, that Iowa has ever had. Without a doubt. Stoops would have been hired over the phone. He would have called him and said your my guy, I'll be on the next plane down to iron out the details. No bogus search committee.

Of course you need a hiring committee to find the best candidate. Everybody knows that people that have no clue what a football is let alone what it takes to coach a team that plays said game is the best way to find the right coach. Thanks Obama.

Pullurd uses no committee. I'm not judging his hires, but he vanishes and shows back up with a Coach in tow.
