AT&SF..... Amirite Tweets........ask your dad I just read that the Sears in FD is closing. When I was in grade school my grandparents took me there every August to get new clothes for the upcoming school year. It was like walking around in the catalog. Time changes everything.

I just read that the Sears in FD is closing. When I was in grade school my grandparents took me there every August to get new clothes for the upcoming school year. It was like walking around in the catalog. Time changes everything.Troof. I remember as a kid going to the old Sears store downtown wif my Dad. It was especially great at Christmas time, filled with toys, bikes, sporting goods and other really cool stuff like electric trains and, later, slot car sets. Any other Fat Dawgers recall that store? Seems to me it was a single story brick structure on North 7th Street between Central and 1st Avenue, right around the corner from the Laramar. Sucks that FD is losing its Sears. But liek JC Penney and other department stores, they had trouble keeping current with increasing competition from specialized or online retailers. Can't remember the last time I shopped at Sears, much less bought anything. Sears downtown was (and the building is still there)a six or seven story building between 6th and 7th on Central..until it went to the mall in '65? Also I haven't heard Sears is closing in FD....only the automotive dept.
