Troof. I remember as a kid going to the old Sears store downtown wif my Dad. It was especially great at Christmas time, filled with toys, bikes, sporting goods and other really cool stuff like electric trains and, later, slot car sets. Any other Fat Dawgers recall that store? Seems to me it was a single story brick structure on North 7th Street between Central and 1st Avenue, right around the corner from the Laramar. Sucks that FD is losing its Sears. But liek JC Penney and other department stores, they had trouble keeping current with increasing competition from specialized or online retailers. Can't remember the last time I shopped at Sears, much less bought anything. Sears downtown was (and the building is still there)a six or seven story building between 6th and 7th on Central..until it went to the mall in '65? Also I haven't heard Sears is closing in FD....only the automotive dept. I think I remember that store, did it have someone that operated the elevator? The FD store closing is on the KCCI website.

Funny thing was when we got there it was so foggy you couldn't see but 100 yards in front of you. A Bloody Mary and a beanie purchase later, I roped one down the middle a good 280.

Wow....guess so. Other than buying tools once an awhile , haven't been there for along time. Guess crappy Menards will have to do now... until Lowes pulls the trigger on the ground they own and build.

I can vaguely recall Woolworths but not Kresge's. I do recall Gates, Boston, Penneys, and Younkers. I think I got some Buster Brown shoes at JCP's once. they came with a bunch of trinkets.

I assume some of you guy's have turned in a application. How do the rates look in comparison to Friendship Haven?
