I pay in the neighborhood of $1800/1000 sq ft, so far less than Dunder evidently. I think I meant to ask what the rate is per thousand dollars of assessed value, but I fumbled it. anyways, that rate is pretty stiff, Stretch. What all do you get in return from Uncle Linn County Sugar?? wait. I know. snow plowing! lololololOLOLOLOL *cough* I pay $1.1207 per thousand $ assessed value, and Meck is the highest county in the state @ $0.8157 of that low taxes FTW I just used my tax bill and sq footage to come up with the value you asked for. As for what I get for my tithe, mostly crappy streets.

You guys bashing schools in the south don't understand the system. When I lived in NC we had five choices of public elementary schools to send our kids to. Two were really good, scores in the top 10-20% of public schools in the nation. One was ok and two were horrible. The last two had about 40% of the kids below national grade level. Yet parents with a choice still sent their kids to those schools. It was mind boggling.
My kids were way ahead of their fellow students when we moved to CA, but CA schools suck. Iowa schools are mediocre.

Iowa has no large really shitty area's to pull the state average down. You are not comparing apples to apples. In other words, I would wager that the suburban schools of nice charlotte communities have better schools than rural Iowa.

LOL NC is the 2nd to last in ACT score, behind Hawai'i. In the top 25, only Virginia, no doubt buoyed by the money in NoVA, is a southern state in the top 50%

Ive never harmed a cat in any way. My dog has, but there wasnt much we could do in those cases. Believe me, my wife is traumatized when The Big O catches a cat. A dead cat is a good cat.

Evanstown has just one high school, but the south and west sides of Evanston are shitholes that should be partitioned off to Chicago. The test scores are completely binary based on where kids live in town. If you take students from the nice part of Evanstown, the ACT scores are the tops in Illinois or tied with New Trier for first bince everyone in those areas is the kid of a biglaw partner, Big 4 partner, I-banker, consultant, doctor, professor, etc. If you take the students from the shit part of Evanstown, the ACT scores are damn near as dreary as they are at the shittiest school in Chicago. Averaged, they look fucking awful. But again, it's the same fucking inputs but if the parents don't give a fuck about how their kids do in school and are living on Section 8 and shit, it pulls the whole god damned number down even though the school is excellent for people who are reasonably intelligent who have parents who push them. The quality of schools depends a lot more on the quality of your neighbors or self-selection than on anything the government can do.

The HS at which my wife teaches would smoke probably 95% of iowa high schools in terms of student achievement. But we cant let that get in the way of all this precious xenophobia. But how is the water, there?

I'm sure its polluted to all get out. You want me to send some folks down to inspect how much fracking liquids and coal runoff have made it into your water?

Says the lumberjack who lives in waterless cali. How's the desalinated water taste? Pretty bad, I've heard. Y'all can invest in mah water pipeline. I will charge California $8 a gallon for Lake Michigan water, with a limit of 5,000 gallons per day. As a bonus, the pissers from Wrigley, Soldier and Comiskey will all dump into the pipeline as well and Californians will have to pay $16 to drink the 2 gallons of piss that I generate during an average Cubs game.

I'm guessing the decline in ITBS/ACT scores in Iowa have steadily declined at the same rate as poverty has increased. Once manufacturing left towns like Oelwein, people left the state for jobs elsewhere. Those who stayed don't give two fucks about their kids' test scores. We live in the Johnston School District. It's scary how much the number of Uncle Sam lunches have gone up over the last decade. You could probably do a sociology experiment correlating government paid lunches to test scores.

As a gene pool becomes a gene puddle, intelligence generally declines. Wait, what the fuck? You live in the U and you let your kids go to Johnston? Fuck their arbitrary district lines. Open enroll at the U, baby.

It is nice, however, to pay the U's property tax rate compared to Johnston.
