I oppose them as a huge waste of money. Until they can get both the efficiency up and the cost of maintenance down, they are not cost effective. If the gubment was not footing the bill for these wind turbines, non would be built beyond full scale R&D test model, and I would be fine with that. Take the money we are wasting on the current generation wind farms and use it to develop the next generations. You know it'd prolly be most efficient to just have the guvmint directly own and operate this shit as it comes online until it's self-sustaining, but we both know how politically palatable that'd be.

Well, I'm in the lets build up our nuclear power group as it is very safe, efficient, and there are types that don't create much waste or are environmentally hazardous. But with all the anti-nuclear folks out there, it will be difficult to actually approve and build them up. So in the meantime we have to have a diversified attack with our energy needs to keep them cost effective. Some will include wind, much solar, and also nuclear. In some areas, wind does make sense and works great. In other areas, not so much.

Is there a reason we can't just launch spent fuel rods etc into deep space, aside from the part where it's launched via rockets containing shit tons of hyperflammable fuel.

I've got a superintendent pal who used a wind turbine to power a school here in Iowa. They actually sold power back to the grid.
Nobody publicizes shit liek that, tho, because it doesn't involve 1) hating Obama; or 2) Kim K's massive ass.

Maybe Keystone XL should run through her house to ship all that shit to Texas.

I think we should just dump Le dead in shark infested waters I agree. Except I would like to be incinerated and my ashes dumped into the wind off teh top of a mountain in Arizona. How about tied to the feet of a pigeon who will inevitably be kilt by a wind farm?

How about tied to the feet of a pigeon who will inevitably be kilt by a wind farm? Nah. No taste for squab. Well, if you lock in your rates now, you could have JDM provide you the proper amount of propane to incinerate your body and he'd do it for only a small markup in the going rate. But don't wait around, you need to lock in now before the winter rates kick in and you'll be paying triple for said Propane. During the process, Deace will gently sing gospel songs over your burning flesh and bones, while Tony Hager will provide his skills and interview Kirt while wrestling an oiled up pig. Torque will be there to run wind sprints around the complex to show just how fast he really is. JDM will read scripture while pounding some fucking bottom shelf whiskey as his cripple wyfe stays close to the flames to avoid the cold that will make her shiver in pain. Vinnie of course will be there to clear cut your forest, put side mounted handles on your garage whilst taking a shower outside and calling everyone there a fag while he has oscar lick peanut butter off his nutsack. OK4P will commit sepukku because, that's just what he does. Thunder will just stand there and call you all a fucking cunt. Ginger will cry, and will reveal that she does have a soul and really isn't a red head. Scooter will probably be off fucking an ISU grad (A cow of course). And the rest of us won't give a shit and will probably be taking huge shits in your honor. You're welcome.

gah! crapids is also coal-dominated! WTF you assholes That is interesting since i can see a plume off the cooling tower of the only nuclear power plant in the state of iowa from where i am standing. Just goes to show you how little other sources of generating capacity have on the total. Coal is king and will be out of necessity for a long time to come. Just facts.

There's already refineries 'round Billings. Oh, and when was the last time you heard of a new refinery being built in the US?? Just did a little research. Montana has 4 compared to 29 in Texas and 16 in Louisiana. Congrats, you discovered search engines. How many moar you think the gubmint will let them build up there tho? ?

the economics that underpin a new greenfield refinery (particularly in a non-traditional location) are not palatable to the current players in the game they all have available capacity at their existing refineries, so they will absolutely not spend the billions to build a new one it's that simple but what do I know. i mean, it's not like i'm in the industry or anything. Huh... Almost like I was hinting towards this....... Huh

At least by the time this country actually takes action on renewable energy, China should have built enough coal plants to replace/outnumber ours liek 5 to 1....

how much does the US gov't give annually to Big Oil in the form of subsidies and tax breaks? I already covered that above. Yes, big oil gets huge unnecessary subs from the government, but these are only pass through payments that end up back in the pockets of our elected officials. Big oil would remain profitable without them. The current crop of renewables would dry up and blow away without their subsidies. I want renewable subs to be used for massive R&D projects, not massive zero value commercial installations.
