If a little is good, then more is great...right? This is a close model to what is being installed in April to supplement my current roof-mounted solar system. I don't think it'll be up this high, but you get the idea. It will add 50% more capture to the current system. That's 50% less electric bills than now, another $5k to the value of the property and another $5k out of Uncle Sam's hands (direct solar credit from feds/state). We'll be doing a bit of trenching work to bury the conduit/wires from the panel to the current system on the roof. It'll be stationed along the alley to the south of my property. Nothing there now but grass. But boy, does the sun burn all day in that area! If you're ever in the Durant area, swing on by for free tours!

Summary: seff spent north of $20k for a solar rig that came up well short of target, and now he is spending another $5k to compensate. How many years of electricity bills would $25k cover? Like 30 or so? #whoa #holyshit #ba_ha_ha_ha Laffy. The 'original' construction is actually producing a bit above projections. And I'm only paying 50% of the bottom line price. So, approximately $14K when all said and done. Yeah, energy pay back cost is one thing. Will take awhile, but that's only a part of it. Adding net worth to the abode is another. And keeping dollars out of greedy Obama's hands is yet another. It's a better investment this year than any CD, stock market portfolio, etc. Safer too.

I spoke to the structural engineer this morning and I requested a smaller vertical footprint. So I don't think it'll be that tall actually. But for sure, I'll spruce (pun intended) it up a bit. (It'll be made of Cedar). Trenching to the garage conduit has to be 18" into the soil. The stand also has to meet city anchoring and easement requirements. They hook it up so I don't have to do an expensive breaker box upgrade. All included in my turn key price. $500 down and the work begins. "Real" pictures will be posted post erection....er....construction.

Wow. Mr. Downer. "Never" laffy again.
Sure we will. Very soon in fact.
I guess you just don't understand finances.
It's about a 12 year payback for the electrical costs.
And the system will add about $10K to the next asking price (not sure where you're getting the 30%/150% figures from).
Outdated? You're kidding right. It's been modernized throughout. And sits on a choice corner lot.
Again, it's a better investment than the stock market, CD, bonds, new car, vacations, or however you park your discretionary income these days.

Comparing the installation of a pool in Iowa (5-6 month use, upkeep/maintenance nightmare, no tax benefits, energy sucker) to a solar system (immediate tax benefits, infinity energy reduction from day one, expanding stature/acceptance, property enhancement) just proves how clueless your argument is.
You laugh at Durant, but the Wilton/Durant/Walcott corridor has been real estate recession proof. Full of people like me who work in either IC or QCs but want to live in a quiet safe environment. You make it sound like it's a only a town of blue-hairs. Hardly. A ton of professionals live here.
I did my research before moving here. And before I invested in solar. Twice. I have my act together. No wide-eyed neophyte here.
But please, continue to throw the insults. I've grown used to nothing else but on this board.

I honestly don't care what you do with your trumpian riches, but you should expect some push-back when you come onto this particular website and start boasting about winning life and being generally awesome and leaving the rest of us unwashed morons behind. For reference, pls recall the beatings I took (and continue to take) when I posted details & pics of my recent home build. As far as the rest of your post, get back to me after you've spoken with an honest real estate pro about the actual value of your home. Mother of Gawd.......... I've herd this rant before.......... Can you imagine being the guy next door and having all that shit in the neighbors yard. Talk about decreasing the value of the neighborhood. make fun of HOAs all you want, but I can tell you that if one of my neighbors attempted to do what Seff did to his house, our architectural control committee wouldn't allow it past the application stage. Here's a little something I wrote and added to our architectural guidelines last summer: SUBJECT: SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM GUIDELINES General: All solar energy systems and panels must comply with the following guidelines, except to the extent such compliance would alter or impair the operation. Notification: All plans must be preapproved by the ACC prior to installation. Homeowners should first consider all existing structures and landscaping before selecting a site for any proposed solar system. System size: To be determined by a qualified system engineer and be applicable to the existing home and its energy requirements. Prohibition: No system components may be placed in the Common Areas. They can only be placed in areas within the owners’ exclusive use and control. Preferred Location: Preferred location of solar panels is a rear-facing, roof-mounted array. Flushmounted panels (i.e. – the plane of the array is parallel to the roof) on a roof facing a street may be allowed if documentation is provided from the solar contractor indicating this is the only feasible location for a solar array. If panels are installed on a side or rear roof, the array may be tilted or raised if a variance is granted. Appearance: All components of the solar system should be integrated into the design of the home. The color of the solar system components should generally conform to the color of the roof shingles to the extent practical. Solar “shingles” that mimic the look of a composite shingle are acceptable but should match the color of the current roof shingles as much as is practical. Piping and electrical connections will be located directly under and/or within the perimeter of the panels, when possible, and placed as inconspicuously as possible when viewed from all angles. The highest point of a solar panel array will be lower than the ridge of the roof where it is attached. All painted surfaces will be kept in good repair. Submission: Pursuant to Huntersville city and Mecklenburg county codes and ordinances, the installation of all solar heating and cooling systems shall only be undertaken Applications submitted to the ACC should include the following: A diagram “drawn to scale” by the licensed contractor installing the system showing where the system will be installed; Photos of the roof area where the array will be mounted; Material to be used and/or manufacturer’s description of the system, photos and/or pictures of the system and color of the system; Where possible, provide photos of similar existing systems as examples. A variance to certain sections of these guidelines may be granted if compliance with these guidelines would significantly increase the purchase price of the solar system or significantly decrease its performance or efficiency. If a homeowner seeks a variance they must provide a minimum of two bids depicting the cost of installation of the solar systems – one bid in compliance with these guidelines and a second bid depicting the desired alternative location, unless the variance represents the only feasible installation location. The ACC may require bids or estimates from a second contractor in order to make an informed decision. So I see your commitment to liberal politics and global climate change has a limit, and that limit is if your neighbor's roof looks slightly different than everyone else's.

Look guy, when (if) you get on my level, you can lecture me on the acceptable methods of protecting and enhancing property value. Until then? Maybe take a look at how (and in what) you live and focus improving your station in life. WADR, of course. I dunno mang, I guess, to me, taking care of the Earth is more important than trying to manipulate real estate prices. But then again, you and I have different priorities. I'll have many homes in my life, but only one planet.

Imma buy the house next door to yours. Befriend all of your neighbors and become HOA President. I will then require solar, as well as tiny dickbutts to be included on all exteriors of the homes when they are painted. You want a brown or tan house? Awesome, you also get 100 brown dickbutts per square foot.
