A rather long but delightful read. If real... fucking brilliant. Reminds me of my halcyon days of the aughts where I built up my HN post count and didn't do much of anything but web surf. sites.google.com/site/forgottenemployee/

Ho-Lee-Fuk. They reported a bear 6 miles south of my house on Backdoor the other day. The picture was grainy, but it was a fucking big ass bear. That is significant because if you go 10 miles north you are in the mountains and there are bears, but a fucking bear 16 miles from the deep forest is sheer fucking terror. I asked if a 7.62 x 39 would kill it and someone said "if you're a really good shot and hit the lungs, heart or right part of the head, yes, but if you don't hit the right spot it will just piss it off." Someone else clarified that if you hit it at least 5 times around center mass with 7.62 x 39 it would be incapacitated enough that it "probably wouldn't" be able to maul you.

Good God, that was better than any piece of content the NFL or NBA has produced in over a decade! Well done.

Love it. 10/10. I have to find one of those and take my chihuahua. Get her around humans and she's the most precious little princess you've ever seen but get her within 20 feet of a dog and she's Cujo times 10.

I could never do this. Can’t do heights. I absolutely love the Smokies, but I am not a fan of the mountains out west. The Smokies are geologically way older than the Rockies and are all worn down, which gives them very gentle slopes. I've been to Colorado and Oregon and the mountains look great, they are absolutely amazing, but I get ripshit terrified going up them because they are so damned tall and the drops are insane. There is no god damned way I would do what those lunatics are doing. I think most people born and raised in Iowa have a healthy fear of the ocean and giant mountains.

I blame my father for my bridge fear. We used to go to Water Works park in Des Moines for picnics or just driving around the park, as that’s cheap entertainment when you’re poor. There was a wooden floored bridge that went across the river and when you drove across it it it would make horrible loud popping sounds. My dad would stop on the bridge and say he was stuck and tell us to look down at the river below and say we were going to fall in. Then he creeped along slowly with the loud popping just laughing his ass off while the four of us were screaming and my mom was yelling “god damn it Larry! Knock it off !” Then we’d get across and go have our picnic and do the same shit on the way back. A few years later they decide the bridge wasn’t safe anymore and you could only walk across it. Dads. Ya gotta love ‘em.

Ya gotta love ‘em. Our getaway was Dolliver Park in picturesque Lehigh, Iowa. They had this crick that flowed over the road and my old man would always stop and say "the current is washing the car out, everybody get out!" and then he'd laugh his ass off when me and my brother jumped out into half inch deep water. He did accidentally get a wheel of an Oldmosbile off the road on a trip up Pike's Peak which legit did scare me of massive mountains.
