The ppl across the street sure do seem to have a lot of energy. They are always doing something in the yard, I’m just not sure what. They have so much energy that they entertain guests 24/7, tho I must admit that most of their guests only stay for a few minutes before hurrying off. Probably to get something to eat as they are all skinny as a rail. But at least they are energetically starving.

So after watching Chernobyl on HBO,anyone still a big proponent of nuclear? Absolutely. That plant got broken because of the way they operated it, not because it was an accident waiting to happen. Locking out rods from the scram signal, overriding safeties, having operators that didn't know squat about delayed poisoning, etc. was more of a factor than anything else. Our plants are several magnitudes safer, our procedures and training far more vigorous. Environmentally, nuclear is the best option. Energy production ratio to fuel. Nuclear is the best option. Safety record. Nuclear is the best option. Waste production? Nuclear is the best option. I'd feel comfortable having a plant in my backyard any day of the week.

I used to feel concerned about nuclear power and how safe it is, especially with regard to the infrastructure. Then Trump became president, and now I feel confident that the NRC will more than echo his penchant for stable and well thought out risk management.

It's a potent source of energy. It's also regulated by......................ding ding fucking ding, the gubmint. How long before an "seasoned veteran(ass clown politician who lived 300 miles from one)" in this administration decides nuclear "ain't that dangerous"? Design, training, regulation, etc.....all depend on execution.
Our armed forces have mistakenly transported nuclear warheads to sites that were oblivious to their arrival, on more than one occasion. Every few years someone finds vials of anthrax, smallpox, plague, etc in a freezer somewhere that some human forgot about. We have politicians who believe a book written by humans supersedes scientific facts.
Trump looked directly at the sun, after having to be told not to do so.
Human fucking nature.

Human fucking nature. 5 years plus combined time on a seagoing vessel with 2 operating nuclear reactors. Nothing substantial ever happened related to the plant. 22 years in the service, nothing substantial happened to the fleet. Yeah its the DOE monitoring and literally one of the stupidest people in politics is in charge. Still wouldn't mind. Of all the substantial energy sources we have it has the safest track record in this country, hands down. Coal is far more environmentally damaging, natural gas production causes massive amounts of earthquakes and contaminated water sources, coal plant waste destroys rivers on a semi regular basis. If we would simply get the new plants on line it could easily handle the majority of our energy needs. And Yucca mountain needs to happen. Got news for you, the govt has been moving military cores through your backyards since the 60's and you haven't noticed yet. Weapons production from nuclear however has completely screwed up a few places. No argument on that aspect.

The fear that a lot of people have, and I think it is credible, is what happens in an accident. The probability is absolutely very, very low. However, things can happen as we saw most recently with Fukushima. And when shit hits the fan, it is very, very, very bad. And the problem is that when shit hits the fan, the only thing you can really count on is that the companies involved will all lie like hell and the government will lie like hell. Because they all know that by the time the impact from the contamination is felt, they ain't gonna be around to deal with the consequences of it.
