I've a guy from Omaha desperately trying to convince me that Omaha would be a good MLB market Where the hell do these people come from? Have people like that ever seen a mountain? The ocean? A great lake? A building over 50 stories? In all fairness Omaha is probably a AAAA city for baseball. If they were in a different part of the country with a reasonable suburban population base they probably could have pulled it off 25 years ago. TV market not withstanding Des Moines is actually closer to a MLB ready city today eith Wells Fargo, Equifax, and all the insurance money in town. People have no clue how much corporate money it takes in a town to make a major sports team go. For fuck sake Kansas City wouldnt have a shot in hell in landing a mlb expansion team today if the Royals werent already there.

MLB added 4 teams in the '90's and shit ass towns liek Omahall were nowhere near the cut. I guess if MLB ever went to 50 or 60 teams Omahall would be around the cut line, but I don't think that is gonna happen.

One of his arguments was that with Lincoln nearby, the population of the two cities is around 700,000 Thats a really good point by him. With a 700k polulation that would make it about 50% of the size of the current smallest MLB city.

One of his arguments was that with Lincoln nearby, the population of the two cities is around 700,000 Hayseeds from Omaha look at lists of the biggest cities and don't understand that Omaha annexed every fucking town and village over the past 100 years and that is the only reason it shows up in the top 50 or whatever. It has very little by way of suburbs, which double or triple the population of almost every statistical area. The anchor town where I live is only 60 thousand people, but the statistical area with all the suburbs is about 1.5 million, which is materially bigger than Omaha and Lincoln and all the little towns that would comprise their statistical area. And even at that, there ain't no way this area could support a baseball team. We have a single A team because the taxpayers told the team owner of the AAA team to eat a bag of dicks when he wanted the county to stroke a check for a new stadium. Omaha is under 3 hours from KC. MLB would look at that map and never in a million years want to plant another team so close to an existing team in such a sparsely populated area. If they added teams, the top choices would probably be Vegas, San Antonio, Charlotte, Indy, Portland, Nashville, etc. Places like that are at least 2-3x the size of Omaha and its surrounding area.

Getting from far west O to downtown is also a giant pain in the ass, since there's no expressway north of 1-80 running east-west; the result is that a lot of people who live out in far western Omaha tend to work and recreate out there. It's not like Des Moines where you can hop on 235 from Waukee and be downtown in an easy 10 or 15 if you're not in rush hour. In Omaha, you get funneled from West Dodge Road onto Dodge Street, which becomes a giant clusterfuck. So you've got to really want to head downtown for some event-level shit if you're living out on 180th street. It's a journey. Omaha west of 72nd and Omaha east of 72nd are essentially two different cities. And North O, of course, is a fucking war zone. Legit. There's some legit Thug Life happening up there. You might as well be in Chiraq or Compton. If you're a suburban white boy and you roll through North O in your Vineyard Vines polo and happen to break down or get stopped at an intersection for more than half a minute, you're likely gonna get robbed and die. Lincoln, by the way, is even more poorly planned for transportation purposes than is Omaha. No war zone to speak of though.

Hey pards is he right? I don't know, but somewhere there is a woman who made this incel write this. I would like to hear her story of interactions with this guy. I'll bet it is equal parts hilarious and creepy.
