This is really a pretty good idea.

This is really a pretty good idea. I used to go to Hillcrest Dining Hall at 10:28 virtually every day, read the WSJ and NYT for half an hour, then ate a gigantic lunch when they brought it out at 11. If you got there before 10:30 it was only $4, but the price skyrocketed to $7 if you went after 10:30. My wife worked at Oaknoll and got two free take home meals virtually every day from the leftovers. I think we went grocery shopping about once a month and I got out of law school with about half the debt that most of the kiddos are incurring in a year these days.

I lived off campus and only ate in the dorms a few times. It seemed expensive at the time. But I did love to get the turkey-broccoli cheese and rice casserole at the Quad. That shit slapped…as the kids say.

My understanding is that college food isn't just a potato bar or spaghetti bar carb bomb anymore so hopefully that has gotten better. I loved Hillcrest. $4, all you can eat, stay as long as you want. One day leading up to finals me and HappyChef pulled a 'Crest Trifecta. Got there for breakfast and managed to stay all day and get three meals for $4 while we were studying.

A HappyChef story…haven’t heard one of those for a while. So did you have to pay $4 admission to the cafeteria in order to eat?

I'm going to Omaha in a few weeks en route to Durty Dodge and will meet up with HappyChef. There's one fucking thing I wanted to do in Omaha, take my boy to see that Stone City Iowa painting and the fucking museum is closed all god damned year.

My grandma was a cook at Hillcrest dining during the 70's & 80's. She used to love feeding the football players & wrestlers.
