Wrong iowafan - I think you only need 6 months of expenses in savings. If a guy like autolykos kept 6 months of earnings in savings, his wife would spend money quicker than Richard Pryor wasted cash in Brewster's Millions. But lp and matta, our friends at the fed are signalling to take your money out of savings, as the real rate of return of most savings accounts is negative. Sweet!!!... according to you, every McDonalds working liberal should be able to achieve that savings goal with the upcoming Stimulus checks... Thanks for the financial advice!!!!

No, we shouldn't expect anyone to ever save money if they work at McDonald's. They are poor because society makes it impossible for them to achieve. They just didn't catch the right breaks. They are unlucky. They don't need to save because the nanny state will be there to take care of them no matter what.

I have to admit as someone that has been approved for "entitlement" programs in the past I think they are a good thing but I think there should certainly be limitations for them. I'm not thrilled about the receiving the assistance but I have to say that is has helped me and my family. We really don't need these people on title IX, WIC, Food Stamps, Hawk-i, Medicare, HeadStart, the cash program from the govt' etc. just because they can make more on them instead of working at some factory for 12 bucks an hour or even McD's and having a 2nd job.
When I was a kid here in Belmond there was a lady that was literally having kids every other year or so just to get extra welfare money. If I am correct she and her husband were driving around in a new conversion van, 80's style. I think there should definitely be time limits on how long you can be on that stuff otherwise it can be hard to wean yourself off that stuff. If you know you are going to be getting $200 worth of WIC, $350 of food stamps, $300 in govt' cash, rental assistance, daycare assistance, Hawk-i etc each month where is the incentive to get off if you know that if you get 1 little job that pays 7 or 8 bucks an hour for 30 hours a week you lose half your benefits? There isn't any. Put them on it for 1 year, with the possibility of an 6 month extension in extreme cases and then kick their asses off it. JMO.
Want a reality check of how much money is going out the door, go to a WIC appt' and be surrounded by 20 mexicans who don't speak english yet they are all getting theirs. Then they go home to their house that 10 other people live in and that may or may not be their relatives and share the goods between them? It's beyond ridiculous. Some state out east is proposing legislation saying that they aren't going to support the illegals anymore because it is driving the state bankrupt. I think it's Massachusetts. They are currently spending 500,000,000 $$$$$$ a year on govt' programs for illegals. I don't think we should deport all the illegals, just stop supporting them and giving them jobs and most likely a good portion of them will leave. There are already reports among various states that illegals are starting to leave states that are enacting tougher laws against illegals. Hip Hip hooray!!!
