We're not on the brink of a depression. I have a great deal of confidence in American consumers ability to adapt to rising energy prices. We'll pull through. You'll live. I promise. Yes. The magical gas fairies will wave their wands to fill up everyone's gas tanks... and then their cousins, the grocery goblins will sprinkle their magical "lower prices" dust - prompting the mortgage monsters to stop eating all the ethereal home equity... www.irvinehousingblog.com/blog/comments/the-ultimate-post/#moreYou can tell when you're close to a top or bottom of an economic cycle by the rantings of the unsophisticated. It is the best leading indicator known to mankind. Judging by this, I would not want to be long summer 2009 wheat or oil futures right now. Guys like socal were the ones buying houses on nothing down 2 years ago as the euphoria would never end, now we're close to coming full circle, as the dollar will never strengthen, farmers won't adjust wheat production and gas is heading to $7.50 a gallon according to a guy who put forth a model that predicts that gas costs $6.30 a gallon today. Mohawk - you'll be fine. Remember the post earlier today about conservatives being happier than liberals? You can see who is optimistic about our future and who is pessimistic about our future just by reading this thread.

I've little doubt I'll be fine Ralph.
Know that this next question is as devoid of snark as can be, but it will sound snarky:
What makes you think energy prices aren't reaching a critical mass? Everyone will adjust by driving less or getting a more gas-friendly vehicle, but are you saying there's not a problem and we just need to wait this out?
I think the root of the problem is the weak dollar...until that situation is corrected, which I have no idea how to do admittedly, food, energy and other problems will continue to fester.

My Piece of shit car has a ten gallon tank so that semi rocks, but this gas price shit is FUKKING BULLSHIT and there is no reason what so fukking ever that they are over 2.50 right now, NONE. The lowest gas has been since I started driving was 1.64. Just rediculous.

I don't know what you mean by critical mass. Gas is a helluva lot more expensive in other countries and they are fine. I think prices staying high for a long time or going higher would do more for the air quality where I live than 20 years of heavy handed regulation could ever accomplish, so I am in favor of higher gas prices, as it has the potential to make the air I breathe cleaner. Once the Fed stops its bank/borrower credit binge bailout and starts moving rates back up, we'll see gas come down. There's a helluva lot of speculation built into the price right now, not to mention the piss poor dollar. It'll come back down, don't worry. If you would like to expedite the downward pressure, just call my brother and tell him to buy crude futures. That guy has the shittiest luck in investing, if he's long, the market will sit sideways or (more likely) tank.

All trends end, and usually before their extrapolated zenith. I filled up for $1.93 yesterday. Prolly gonna touch the 80s next week. It'll be nuts if we see it get into the 70s.

Got a tank for $1.34 a gallon the other day. My buddy was passing through Walcott the other day and said it was 1.21 there. West Texas Intermediate hit negative 40 per barrel today. Negative fucking 40. Wowsers.

That solves the local budget issues... as pools are still closed, start filling them up & getting paid $40 a barrel for doing so.

Someone should bailout the Oil Industry. I'm sure the GOP and Trump will be right on it with their crocodile tears staining their face masks.

Makes no sense to fight for a pipeline when nobody will buy that shitty Canadian tar sand oil. Gotta prop them up somehow, but fuck the poors.
