I do it and I'm not ashamed about it. Screw ESPN and big cable. /allegedly. I mean I never thought of doing anything like this ever. I'm not trying to shame anyone, I'm just curious. I heard a few weeks ago on Marketplace that Netflix is losing huge revenue on it, and they could do something about it, but they decide not to. I had never really heard of login sharing, and had no idea how prevalent it was, even though I've been cable free for 5 years. Would you allegedly share logins for ESPN, or what other products. I pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime to the tune of $220 a year, which is about two months of cable.

I'd like to get Amazon Prime, but le wyfe thinks its a waste because she only sees it for the free shipping. We don't order a ton online, so she can't see the other benefits. I really like Amazon Music for streaming music at work when we tried the trial for Prime a month ago. Tv/movie wise, it's ok. Not really better than the other two, but a nice compliment to them. Netflix does have limits on how many streams can happen at once from one account. They don't filter it by IP or anything like that because they do realize that many people do travel and would be a pain for them to open up a connection if a person was moving from location to location frequently. ESPN and BTN do not have connection limits from what I have been able to tell. Also, netflix has a HUGE base now thanks to all the cord cutters out there world wide. They aren't hurt terribly by those that do share. (Usually just a family, not someone giving out login info to all their friends.) I think the simultaneous streams is 3 at a time.

Do they still have commercials for their subscribed viewers? That's why I dumped it in the first place. Amazon Prime is nice because I can watch old HBO shows; Sopranos, Oz, The Wire, Rome...it's pretty sweet.

They toned it down a lot though for how long they can be, and even offer ways to skip them by doing some, lame quiz that takes 10 seconds to avoid all commercials for that show. We had it 2 years ago and hated it. Now, we actually like it. Kids shows have zero commercials. Last thing a 2 year old cares about is two 50 year olds with herpes going for bike rides.

True, directTv would be hurt badly by losing the NFL package. I'm sure the NFL has some sort of deal with them that they can only offer that to their subscribers, and not sell the package to others. It's a shame though, they paid out the ass for that deal and I'm sure for the NFL the guarantee of that money is good enough for them to be fine with that decision. Besides, that's only here in the states, and the NFL offers the NFL package in other countries, usually for less than DirectTV sells it to paying subscribers as well. Once upon a time not that long ago there was some european country where it was absolutely free. People would use VPN services to connect to that country to trick the servers and would get all the games for free. Directv is being sued due to this issue. Doubt it does anything, but one can hope.
