Scromiting cases have increased as pot has become far more powerful, according to doctors. Experts say the marijuana consumed 20 years ago had levels of THC, the main psychoactive ingredient, of 2 percent to 3 percent, but cannabis products now sold in markets like Colorado can have THC levels as high as 90 percent.

The "experts" are wrong. There was ditchweed back in the day that had those low levels of THC, but by the mid-90's the Amsterdam strains had made their way even to Iowa. Those things were close to 20% THC. Not to sound like a big government bootlicker, but things materially above that probably shouldn't be sold.

And there have been some recent studies that said that it not good for the adolescent brain and can cause permanent changes. Remember that kid a few years back that got stoned, I think in Colorado, and then jumped off a balcony and died? Most people said it couldn’t have been the weed; weed doesn’t do that. Well maybe it was the weed.

That’s abnormal bastardized weed and it’s just too big of a THC hit for neural cannabinoid receptors. Of course it’s gonna cause problems. That’s like switching out Patron for Everclear. It ain’t the same. You’d have to be fucking crazy to willfully ingest such a thing.

Well maybe it was the weed. No adolescent should consume alcohol, THC or any other psychoactive drug. I’m adamant about this. The effects on a developing brain are qualitatively different than the effects on an adult brain. My go to is a Sativa strain that has some pretty decent painkiller effects and is mildly relaxing without sacrificing alertness. I’m not doing myself any damage. But there is no way in hell I’d allow a kid or teen to use it. Ever.

There are a few reasons I am for weed legalization nationally, but the biggest two are (1) drug dealers don't check age and it was materially easier to score weed than booze when I was in high school - legal weed will eliminate dealers and make it more difficult for kids to procure weed (assuming age is 21) and (2) the entire "gateway drug" argument is predicated on the fact that to get weed you have to go to a drug dealer and that meeting with a drug dealer is how a bunch of kids (other than the pillheads the pharma companies have produced) get their introduction to harder drugs.

Serious question: do you smoke pot? Do you enjoy it? What benefit do you get?
I axe because for the most part I’ve given up beer, wine, bourbon, anything other than the occasional margarita. I haven’t been even remotely drunk in a long time but even after one drink I have trouble sleeping and I don’t feel that great in the morning. Can’t think it would be any better with weed.

I hardly drink at all anymore. I use weed in moderation. I’ve been couch locked once and I never touched that shit again. Even then I had no residual hangover of any kind. Cannabis actually helps me sleep, like Benadryl. It’s not that restless semi-sleep that you get with alcohol.

Plus legalizing it will allow full banking privileges, create legitimate employment and bring in a nice revenue stream for politicos to squander. And IMO having used both opioids and cannabis (the former out of necessity) opioids are FAR more dangerous.
