Man, I didn't mean for shit to get this heated.... Why don’t you and me plan my vacation in South Dakota. Tell me where I should stay, a selection, and I’ll see if I can get reservations. Dates, lodging preferences, go....

Guess who’s going to South Dakota next week? My husband decided we would go. The only thing planned (that I know of) is that we have our cabin booked at a place outside of the town of Custer. Other than than that it’s a free for all. Our first night is the 18th but maybe if we leave early on Saturday we can actually drive to Wall and wasted some time and money there. What do you think, Ice?

You can drive through Custer park wildlife loop and eventually connect to that iron mountain road, needles, etc.. Not hard to do Rushmore either, but there's gonna be crowds so I'd do that early.

My daughter loved going to Wade's gold mill in Hill City. They teach you to pan for gold and you can pan real ore from a mine, not dirt spiked with an occasional flake like the other "gold panning" places in the area. The ore is chock full of garnets which are also kind of cool.
If any of the family are horse riders, I can recommend a place for that as well.

Skip SD and go to Scotland. It's really nice.

Forget South Dakota. Go to Mexico like me in a few weeks. Far fewer assault rifles unlike the fully armed douche that terrorized KC right outside a work office I was planning to go to today.

Devils Tower is a short drive west into Wyoming and worth seeing. Wall Drug is a cuntish tourist trap. Skip. Badlands are a must see. Sylvan Lake, tres cool. Deadwood...a little overdone but worthy of a cocksucking visit. Rushmore obviously, and Crazy Horse.

I could see everything I needed to of Crazy Horse from the highway. We have never stopped there. Needles highway is a must drive. Agreed, Devils tower is a nice side trip if you have the time.

The news these days talks too much about Badlands. How about talking about Goodlands once in a while?

This reminds me of a story...my moms older sister was sometimes referred to fondly as “crazy Mary”,but not to her face. She was always a little odd; never married, lived with her parents until they died and had ten cats...but then she fell at work and cracked her head around age 60 and had a subdural and never went back to work again. And her hoarding tendencies blew up. She was close to retirement so I guess it didn’t matter much. She was always going to sales and buying worthless shit, including clothes. The family was gathered at Christ the King church for some kind of rehearsal thing or something.... I don’t recall but what I do recall was my aunt trying to catch Father Chido’s attention. She wanted him to see a shirt she bought. She was running down the isle pulling up her sweatshirt so he could see her T-shirt. She was short and fat and her hair was kind of a loose bunch of curls and she’s running as fast she can yelling. “Father Father you have to see my shirt!” Finally he stops and looks and says “oh how nice Mary.” She explains that it’s a animal rights shirt. It said “Save a horse. Ride a Cowboy” She had no idea of the meaning. The rest of the family was face palming. I’ll check out Hill City. I think we may have went horseback riding last time we were to SD.

Avoid the crowds and check out Chadron State Park, Knebraska. Probably the only thing more boring than western Minnesota and eastern SD is the entire state of Nebraska.

Deadwood...a little overdone but worthy of a cocksucking visit. Rushmore obviously, and Crazy Horse. Here’s another story. Last time we were there we stayed in a little cabin in a residential area a little west if the town of Custer. When we left Minnesota that day we got a later start than anticipated and it was after noon when we left Rochester. Having young kids we stopped a lot too. It was late when we got to the badlands. Too dark to see. My husband was exhausted from driving and wanted to pull over to some town that appeared to have only a dumpy hotel hotel and a gas station. It looked creepy. I said nope. Just get me some coffee and I’ll get us there. I checked the map and got on the road. Drove through Rapid City, Custer state park and then finally to the little town of Custer. Drove right past the street we were suppose to turn on. It was dark and 2 am by this time. As I am driving west on the highway I see this big sign about Devils tower being ahead and thought cool. I didn’t realize it was so close. By then Dave woke up from his nap and realized I’d over shot our turn and I had to turn around and go back. It was actually only a few miles. After a nights sleep we get up to plan our day and I mention that we should go to devils tower. He tells me that it’s a long way away. Being a good wife I didn’t question him, but I was bummed. Well la de da, I fucking looked at the map a few days ago and that thing is only a little over two hours away. We will be going there.

Do this day one: WL Loop - needlesThis takes you right by Rushmore, so stop there if you want. Keep in mind the "stops" I put on the map are just way points, not actual points of interest. Day two you could drive up to Hill City and ride the train to Keystone; or you can lay around and blow money on over-priced wine and shit; or you can just fuck around in Keystone too (fuck that); but you get the gist. Day three you can drive out into WY and up to Devil's Tower and on back down to Custer via Spearfish Canyon and seeing Crazy Horse by driving by....like Sioux said.. When we went to SD before, my 2005 van was just a baby in 2006. Now it’s got 222,020 miles on her. I hope she holds up.
