I am not sure what caused the initial explosion, but the massive secondary blast is almost certainly grain dust from the silos located next to the building that had the primary fire and explosion.

Some minister of something or other said the building was used for storing ammonium nitrate. If that's the case, I'll put my wager on ammonium nitrate. But you are correct that grain dust explosions are no joke, either.

The explosion didnt take place inside the silos, in the video that shows what could be fireworks going of over the building next to the silos, it looks like dust pouring out of a gash in the side of the silo. This would produce a dust cloud that is ignited by the adjacent fire.

To me they looked like when those giant circuit breakers on overhead power lines are blowing up from fire or a storm.

That’s how they were storing the ammonia nitrate.

LOL holy shit That's worse than rural Iowa Rest assured, though, pal, that operation was licensed, bonded and insured. Every single person who suffered an economic or physical injury as a result of the incident will be made whole, at least monetarily.

Ok someone explain to me why grain dust is dangerous The dust isn't dangerous. It's when you have the dust inside of a gigantic closed space that makes it dangerous. The dust is highly flammable and one spark, plus a shitload of dust inside of a confined space creates a massive explosion.

How the fuck can you live in Iowa for over 30 years and not know why grain elevators assplode. Because I've had sex Good then I can mansplain it to you. Pretend grain dust is your wiener at age 27, your pants are a silo, and an open flame is the hand of the first non-relative girl who reached in your pants and touched your wiener.
