Great to beat ISU...so fucking happy I don't have to put up with ISU shit talking for another year.
Although our defense looked stout, remember they didn't give up any touchdowns at this point last year either. With that said I DO think our defense is legit.
So let's thing about this...Norm get his lumps for not adjusting to certain offenses...but let's be honest, we usually have a strong defense. Just think what this team, or past teams coud have done with a good offense...shit even an above average offense! Our defense has gotten our offense off the hook way too many times. We will not take it to the next level until we get our offense clicking. And before somebody gives me the shitty weather defense, this shit has happened in pristine weather.
Again, I'm fucking ecstatic to beat Iowa State, but on the same token think about POTENTIAL.

1) Impressed with the Defensive secondary.....given the weather this was probably the only time I agree with Norm about playing 7-8 yards off the line.
2) Overall D is stout. We didn't get a whole lot of pressure against the QB against the Clowns, this needs to improve when the Big 10 gets underway.
3) Disappointed in Stanzi's performance. He looked so good and then looked so bad. At this point, I think you play whomever has the hot hand. Not a big fan of 2 QB systems in general, but I don't think JC or Stanzi have proven one is better than the other. Ride who is hot from game to game; half to half; quarter to quarter at this point.
4) Glad we have a kicker who can make a field goal

Ideally, when having two QB's...if one struggles, you bring the other one in. What happens if they're struggling on the same day?
The cool thing is that no matter what, I think our D keeps us in games. Oh, and we're starting a CRAZY amount of sophomores.

I agree the D looked very good but it did seem like ISU was converting a buttload of 3rd down plays. If we were playing against a better team they would most likely of capitalized after being in the red zone so many times.
Another play that I didn't understand completely (even though it worked out great) was when we had the ball around ISU's 30 yard line then decieded to punt it while we were only up by 3. Granted, it was downed on the 3 yard line but WTF???
Regardless, I am feeling pretty good about our team and think we have a good chance of finishing the season ranked in the top 25 and making a January bowl game. Even if we beat Pitt and NW, you still don't really know how the season is going to wind up.
As always, GO HAWKS!!! It's feeling pretty damn good be be a Hawkeye early this season.

I agree with everything that has been said. For some reason I don't have that big nervous feeling in my stomach about this years team. This team seems much different to me than any team in the last few years, they have a different look and swagger to them and it's refreshing to see. I remember KF coached teams of the past that improved as the season progressed and would peak in November, the last few have not, I think this team has a good chance of righting that ship. There is lots of room for improvement especially at the QB position, but I think it can happen. We will see, this Saturday will be a big test. Something is changing for sure when you see the youth that is starting and playing pretty solid, it's very encouraging.

Yeah this team is playing good right now. It's still really early, but beating ISU is something even great Iowa teams couldn't do in recent years. They are playing like they have something to prove, especially the young guys. The defense was kind of NP signature bend but don't break on Saturday, probably had a lot to do with the weather but I think we'll see that more all season. It was working perfectly though... they'd get into the red zone and come away with nothing, several times. The secondary played really well always finishing with a hard tackle on every play. I say the defense is pretty solid, just like most years. Maybe better than some recent teams.
The offense has got to get rolling smoother, but they are loaded at many positions like TE and QB. It's good seeing the competition at different positions. There are a lot of talented receivers too and if DJK and Brodell stay healthy they could be very good. Reisener looked really good. Plus you got Shonn Greene too. He breaks tackles and bowls people over like Albert Young, only better. He had some great runs on Saturday. Anybody remember that ~8-10 yard gain where he just creamed a guy and kept going for 2-3 more?
Anyways, a win against Pittsburgh and I'm sold on this being the best team since Drew Tate's 10-2 year.

It is also nice to see we can run the ball and have a O that can score points. This week will be a big test no matter how shitty Pitt is. The first road game for a lot of these guys. I like our chances but we should know a lot more about this team after Saturday.
