Man, if I were a Cubs fan I would defintely find a new team. This would be the last straw. This was the best Cubs team in my lifetime (28 years) and they go down like little bitches. What a pathetic NLDS performance. I know it isn't over, but it might as well be. Losing two at home is inexcusable. And there isn't even a Bartman to pin the blame on.

I know of none you could run away from the Hawkeyes...same goes for the Cubs. I'm stuck with 'em.

I know of none you could run away from the Hawkeyes...same goes for the Cubs. I'm stuck with 'em. There you go. I'm right there with you. I was thinking this morning, I may never see the Hawks win a NC in football or basketball, I may never see the Cub's win the World Series. But I can't see myself rooting for any other teams the way I root for the Hawks and Cub's, just impossible for me to imagine. It is comforting to know that I'm not alone

No, you're not along. Cubs fan here as well, even as absolutely trying as it can be at times (like right now).

You know, the Cubs still suck, but in their defense it seems that the teams who coast into the playoffs always get beat by teams that had to battle to the very end. That's why it seems Wildcard teams are always winning the Series. They are usually amped heading into the playoffs because every game in the last month of the season is a must win. Whereas good teams like the 08 Cubs have been in cruise control for awhile and have to turn it on again. That's my theory anyway.
On another note did anyone watch the Phils/Brewers game yesterday. The 2nd inning was just awesome. The Phillies tied the score at one on two doubles and then the pitcher Bret Myers came up with one on and two out. He was batting .067 or something.. only had 4 hits all season. Well he takes a few ugly swings and then he finally makes contact.. the crowd starts to cheer. Then he fouls off another one and the crowd starts to roar. Then Sabathia seemed to get rattled and throws a few balls. Then the entire crowd was on its feet as Myers fouled off another one. Eventually he drew a walk and it was something like a 9 pitch at-bat. The next guy walks on four pitches and the bases become loaded with two outs. Sabathia seems rattled, and the crowd is roaring after every pitch and waving their white hankies. Next up is this Victorino guy. Sabathia throws him meatballs just trying to find the plate again and after taking a called strike he plants one in the left field bleachers. Grand Slam. 5-1.. game over in the 2nd inning. Just thought it was a great inning. And it all started with the pitcher having a hell of an at-bat with two outs.

Shame on me for believing that this year would have a different outcome. It was a GREAT regular season though, one of the best. Baseball is the hardest sport to predict once the post season starts, crazy.
ignatiusreilly I think your theory does hold water

Any responsible cub fan knew this was NOT a world series team. I realize they had the best NL record, but you just never got the impression they had the make-up to go through october. The heart of this team is the same as the one that lost last year-yeah there are some new players but Lee, Sor, Ram, Ther, etc. . . were there last yr and have continued the downward spiral.
While it is not acceptable to lose 2 home playoff games it is utterely inexcusable to not show-up and drop 2 games that looked like mid-year who gives a crap games. Being down 4-2 and 5-0 should not be insurmountable leads-esp given the time left in each game at the time of the deficeit. However, instead of standing up and fighting back getting a run here and there the cub crawled away meekly to mama bear looking for a nice place to hibernate.
If the cub want to seriously make a WS run they have too change the team-trades, FA's etc. . . The same team next yr will make the playoffs and will have a good record and will drop a deauce again in the playoffs.

Well the difference between this year and last year is the pitching staff. IMO, they had one that could have and should have gotten them to the World Series. This choke job in the Division Series is going to make the 'curse' even harder to overcome, because the next Cubs team to make the playoffs is going to be compared to this one that got stomped in Round 1 and will probably pale in comparison. The next Cubs team in the playoffs will have a lot of pressure to succeed... and I'll bet they choke too.

First, I agree this yrs staff was better than last years and for the most part should bve around next yr. Hopefully, they add another quality arm anyway. So far though there was a poor starting pitch job (gm 1) & a good one (gm 2). You could pitch the best game in the world and short of striking everyone out you gotta have defense too. My prob is that after the 2nd inn implosion I really wanted to see something -anything that showed a resolve to win and all we got from our vaunted hitting was 1,2,3 innings. You make an error in the field pick your team up at the plate.
The cub reverted to last yrs swing at will mode instead of doing what was so successful during the season-namely taking walks and then producing runs (led the league in walks and now have a grand total of . . . 4 bb's through 18 innings). Bad plate discipline, errors, not moving guys over all reeks of a team that cannot get it done.

I'm beyond pissed. I certainly thought this team had a shot at the WS, and who wouldn't? Any responsible Cubs fan knows the history of the team, but can't help but believe each year will be the year.
I disagree that we need to blow the team up. The Cardinals were the best team in baseball in '04 and '05 and didn't win the world series. They stumble in in '06 and win it all...with the exact same corps of players.
Some additions, perhaps, but I don't think you need to tinker with the overall make up of the team.
All of this said...LA still has to beat them one more time, and until that's done, the season ain't over.

Try taking a day off work, driving to Chicago, watching the infield implode around Big Z, trying to find a cab back to my car and getting home at 4AM. Talk about a shitty trip.
