My wife would like a 42 inch LCD tv for Christmas. It would be for the living room and she and the kids are the ones that watch tv in there. I, for the most part watch tv in the family room. So, my question is....can I get a cheaper version for them because they are not interested in "the best picture"? It would certainly be an upgrade from what they have now. Or would I be looked at as a cheap ass? When I need a new tv in the family room it will probably be top of the line.
Any opinions from the board?

What they do not know won't hurt them. You can spend what you saved on size/something else. Or use it on yours.

Wal-mart has a Sanyo, spank don't like it, for about $800. It's a 42", 1080p.

I have a 52" Phillps rear projection, 1080i, pretty nice but big. I'd probably sell it for $500.

I have a rear projection TV as well. I don't know shit about TV's, or the different types...but the HD channels look very clear. It's a cheaper way to go, too.
