Looking for things to do on Christmas, lately our Christmas back home have been very drab. Get -together for a few hours, have a few toddies, open presents, take off.
I am looking into getting some more fun things involved, and spending more time when we are back in Iowa.
I have a niece and nephew (both are very young, under 1 and about 3 yrs old respectively) and my son will be almost a 1/2 yr old - so I don't know how much we would get them involved.
It would basically be 6 people - me, my wife, bro, sis-in-law, and my folks.
Looking for ideas - I was thinking board games, but that only goes so far.

That's what our family has been doing for the last 4-5 years. Get together, eat, open presents and go. We used to play games and shit but that has gone by the wayside since we had kids. I would suggest cards. When the whole family, aunts, uncles and cousins get together we play lots of 500 and hearts. I can sit there for 2 hours playing 500. I believe the Who wants to be a millionaire game is pretty popular. You got 3 guys and 3 ladies you could go guys against girls. That's always popular at my families house.

From my mother, I asked for the new "RISK" board game. From the comercails it is supposed to be a faster paced, shorter play time version of the old classic Risk game.
The big reason that no one wanted to play Risk was the amount of time it took to play, 6-10 hours. If I do get the game for christmas I will try to talk my family into playing it with me on x-mas day.
Just an idea.

I don't play cards but the other adults usually do and it always ends up with my father in law yelling at somebody for not playing their hand right in euchre. I just sit back and laugh from the living room.

I just sit back and laugh from the living room. This brings back fond memories of being a kid at X-mas. My father and my uncles would sit around playing peaknuckle (sp?). It would take 3-5 minutes per hand, and then they would talk about the hand for 8-10 minutes about strategy (which got more intense as the beer flowed).
