So the wife whet grocery shopping over lunch today and asked me If I could put them away when she got back to the house because she had to get back to work. I had just got home and was taking a late lunch so no big deal. So I get to the last bag with bread, chips, and buns in it. I put everything away and something struck me as a little odd about the Brat Buns she had picked up. I looked a little closer and realized that there was only 5 buns in a bag that clearly states there should be 6. Did somebody only need one brat bun so they stole one out of the bag, Hy-Vee is trying to cut cost with the state of the economy, or was it a packaging mistake? Then my next question, what the hell do I do with them? Take them back, throw them away, or use them hope it was a packaging mistake and not that some slime ball with shit on his hands stole one of my Brat Buns. Signed, Confused in IC

That's quite the pickle. I would bet you are good to go though. Who would honestly steal one brat bun? Probably just a processing error.
In defense of brat bun manufacturers though, at least they sell packages of 6 (and brats come in packages of 6). Not like their borderline re-re cousins, the hot dog bun manufactures who sell packages of 8, when hot dogs come in 10 (or maybe it's vice versa). It's a fucking consipracy I tell you.

I think your wife ate one on the way home and didn't tell you, hoping you wouldn't notice.

Were these from the Hy-Vee bakery, or a pre-manufactured variety?

pre-manufactured and they aren't like the hot dog buns that are linked together they are all single buns.
and I did call her to see if she needed a bread fix on the way home from the store.

More than likely some kind of processing error, however, since the price of brat buns are not staggering, why take a chance?
I would throw those disease ridden anthrax buns away.

And while I was at it, I might consider wrapping said anthrax buns in plastic and then sealing it with duct tape.

Just return them to Hy-Vee. They will take them back and refund you, no problem. Next time, tell her to be sure and check out your buns in advance.

Just return them to Hy-Vee. They will take them back and refund you, no problem. You really want to take a $2 bag of brat buns back? Unless you got the really expensive kind...I think the most expensive brat buns I've seen is about $3.50, however I've never conducted a study. I'm really just talking out of my ass today.

I bought a bag of thin spaghetti once from the store. Got home and was putting it away and for whatever reason I was looking at the spaghetti and there was something moving in it. It was a moth. It was still alive. How in the hell could it still be alive in a sealed bag of spaghetti? Anyways it left moth stuff all over in the bag so I returned it. The HS chick couldn't believe it.
Many times I have gone to the store and bought buns/bread/grapes etc and come home to find mold on it. That is just plain disgusting.
