Let's say you are a coordinator on a mediocre team and your stock has kind of gone up this past year. The Detroit Lions call and offer you the head coaching job. Do you take it?
I would not. Detroit is where careers go to die.

Yes.
But I'm biased.
There's not going to be much there for expectations for the first couple of years. If you fail (maybe WHEN), I'm sure you'll be able to find another coordinator job around the league.
Wayne Fontes lasted almost 10 years.

Take it. Chalk it up to experience if you are unsuccessful, otherwise get your name in the hat for a job that's a step up and throw the Lions under the bus as nobody can win there; see Gene Chizick.

I'd take it. The expectations are terribly low so it would be really hard to fail. 1 victory would be an improvement.

Agreed. I would take the job. Absolutely zero pressure there as Heywood pointed out. I think you need to win more than 1 game to really get the fans behind you, but if you can put together a "solid" 4-12 or something along those lines, show the fans you've got the team heading in the right direction, it may not be the worst place on the planet.
You can win in any city in the NFL. Place matters not as much as personnel, both in the front office, on the sidelines and on the field. If you can get the right people in place, there's absolutely no reason Detroit couldn't be in the playoffs next year. NFC North is a very weak division.

I'd take it make a $2-3 mill a year for a few years and get fired. I don't see a problem with that. I think it all depends on what other options are out there.

Well, without Millen there running the front office, I don't see that team going anywhere but down. Sure, they can still only lose 16 games next year, too, but the margin of defeat will be worse.
I'd still roll the dice and wait a year for something better before I took the Detroit job.
