I agree that President Obama has been very smart in crafting a way to close the "tax gap." Geithner's thing, well, that's a mistake maybe I can see an average person making, but a guy in the running for the head of Treasury probably should know better. Daschle, on the other hand, his use of the car or whatever, that's also kind of excusable, unless you're some douche like me who pulled the top grade in Tax Law, I can understand the inability to comprehend that the receipt of all those rides was "income" under the Code, but the missed $80 some grand due to an erroneous 1099 - really? How many people can really not realize that their income is off by $80 some grand? I thought these guys were friends of the little guy, not business barons.
We need a standard for these guys and for corporate directors. It should be that "If you have so much shit going on that you can't even figure out how much god damned money you have or earned last year, please don't take on another position that will give you vast authority over a large group of other people, such as director or senior cabinet member."
That said, if the President thinks he's the right man for the job, get him in there.
