The Fairness Doctrine in theory is a crock of shit, no doubt.
When Hannity/Rush/Michael (Randy) Savage makes up a bold-faced lie about a "liberal", the "liberal" needs to balls up and sue the piece of shit for slander. Hit the dumbshits where it hurts, the pocketbook.

I guess I missed the "Attempt" part... BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable? SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.That close enough for you? I thought this was interesting also. UPDATE: A commenter points out that Stabenow is married to Tom Athans, a liberal talk radio executive.Maybe ol' Tom can't find a job on his own so he is going to get the Govt' to help him out.

Notwithstanding my disagreement with many of the policy positions advocated during the campaign by President Obama, I do believe that he is very smart and I have a great deal of confidence that he would not stifle free speech or directly subsidize liberal talk radio, as either one of those could raise serious constitutional concerns and he would fear harsh retribution when the pendulum swings back the other way. Much like the uber right blowhards make the Republican Party look foolish on occasion, the uber left blowhards do the same to the Democratic Party. With the "real" unemployment rate hovering close to 14% right now, I think Obama and Co. will have more important things to worry about than tying up government resources in trying to regulate the "fairness doctrine."
