Fareway, we go there most of the time. Good food, cheap but the stores are kind of small so the selection is a little limited. Now that summer is around the corner they will be making their steak on a stick again and good times will be back.
P & G, the locally owned store. We like them because they are open on Sundays and it's a bigger store so more selection. The prices are higher though. If you get the full list at P & G you will spend 12-15 bucks more per week than at Fareway. Only go here if we forget to get them at Fareway during the week.
Wallyworld, We go to buy some dried stuff like canned goods. Other than that the meat prices appear to be as high or higher and we have a 45 minute drive home.
HyVee, we like them too but don't usually get to them much. About half a mile farther into Mason City than Wallyworld.
SuperTarget, same as HyVee.
Aldi's, we go there once in a while but not as much as we should.
Farmers Market, we love farmers market although not so much for the veggies. The baked goods are awesome. Banana bread, pumpkin bread, cinnamon swirl bread, potato bread, sweet rolls, caramel rolls. Need I go on? My wife does like the veggies more than I do. Cuccumbers, corn on the cob, green beans, etc.

We fluctuate between Sam's Club, GFS, Kroger & Schnucks. I used to love shopping Cosco, I assume sam's club is about the same. When my parent's gave me their deep freeze, Cosco was like a godsend, high quality foods at everyday prices (in bulk). Unfortunately, that last thing I said to her was "see you tomorrow", that was 3 months ago, so I lost a lot of freezer space.

Even more prolish that Wal-Mart I'm afraid. Definitely a place for proles. But when you live on a responsible budget it makes sense to find savings where you can. Not all of us are a bunch of pretentious assholes that shop at Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Up-Scale Asian Food Market

I shop at Hy-Vee most of the time but I always curse myself for doing it. The prices are much higher than Wal-Mart. But I'm unprepared and usually shopping on a meal-by-meal basis and Hy-Vee is closer... wine selection is much better at Hy-Vee.
If I have a cart to fill, it's Wal-Mart for sure.
There is a Sav-A-Lot nearby me and I've been there twice in the last month. It's a little ghetto, but I got a lb. of mediocre bacon for $1.29 and a 7lb. pork roast that became some awesome pulled pork for like $1.00/lb.

Super Target.
Or HyVee/Dahls.
Walmart has roaches and rats. I was told this by a girl who used to work for Hershey's and had access to their backroom/warehouse.

Super Target. Or HyVee/Dahls. Walmart has roaches and rats. I was told this by a girl who used to work for Hershey's and had access to their backroom/warehouse. I'm sure Hy-Vee and other places have their share of pest problems as well. That said, to save some $ we get the packaged stuff at Wal-Mart. Fruits, meats, perishables at Hy-Vee or sometimes Fareway. I just don't trust the Wal-Mart meat or fruit. Don't know if this is just a local thing or not. Spank might know if this is common practice. We know some of the folks at our Hy-Vee and were told that in some cases, if they run out of items (like baby formula as an example), they'll buy it at the local Wal Mart and resell it in Hy-Vee at their own price.

All this grocery & steak talk reminded me of why we don't shop for groceries at Wal-Mart anymore...
They had this box of of "Bacon wrapped Steak Patties" or something thereabout for a really good price. It was something like 10 "steaks" for $6... and it looked fairly appetizing on the box - and seemed like something the wife could throw together fairly quickly... so I bought a box.
She never cooked them, so one weekend I take them out to make dinner. They looked fairly appetizing, except for the clay-like (and obviously well processed hamburger) that formed the "steak".
About 10 minutes later I realize that I can't tell if they are cooking or not due to the "meat" color... so I get out our meat thermometer.
Bad mistake.
The moment I stuck the thermometer in, bloody water began forcibly seeping out. ----Followed by me pulling it out and having a 5 inch gusher of this liquid emptying from the center of this mystery meat.
I took the kids to McDonalds...

This sucks, I planned on fixing steak tomorrow, but you guys will probably snap up the best cuts before I get to the meat counter. I'll have to wait a few days.

Hy-Vee for this guy. The warehouse is in my hometown, and it is much closer to me than Walmart. I do go to Fareway on occasion too.
