Let me brief you on the scenario...
-I'm half-assed but steadily working on projects that will save the company many headaches after I'm laid off at the end of the month.
-The company is keeping 2 people permanently... the first is my boss - because if they fired her, they would lose quite a few big accounts that love her (plus she can work from home). The 2nd is an IT guy that works near my office, and is moving to the headquarters in Connecticut.
-The company is keeping 2 people for two months to dismantle the facilities or whatnot.
-So none of those employed here past 3/31 include me.
My motivation for wanting to save my boss / company from future headaches is directly proportional to my need to not be bored.
Then the continued employment IT guy comes in and asks if I'm busy, because he just realized that he's going to be responsible for dismantling the server room & there is a crapload of stuff that will need to be brought to the dumpster... and he was worried that him and the two "dismantlers" won't be able to handle it all.
Now I'm a big guy and can more easily move/lift more than someone not my size. It's almost become expected that certain energy required tasks I'm to help with.
Thus the conundrum. Normally I'd eagerly help someone that asked me nicely. The difference now is, well, fuck them.
Thoughts?

I would say that you are busy, with your own projects, but otherwise you would love to help them. The finish with a "fuck off" as you walk away.
Your resonsibilities have to come first, unless of course moving shit to a dumpster would be more enjoyable that your current project, i guess.

If THREE guys can't handle moving shit to the dumpster then f**k them. Tell the IT guy that you're working on stuff to save his ass and any more interuptions will have serious implications on his employment status(whether it's true or not).

Is there anything that you can salvage? Maybe you could set up a great pr0n business or pirated movie and music business or something if you get the right servers. You gotta think outside the box here.

Even thought the temptation to tell them to fuck themselves must be pretty high, I think you should keep in mind these are probably the people who will be helping you get a future job. Just throwing that out there.

BTR is right. You are looking at this from all the wrong angles. You NEED to help with the moving of said junk. Now if you accidentally hurt your back, never do it on purpose as that just isn't a good idea, but if you were to get hurt you could go on workmens comp for like a year at pretty close to your regular salary. Then your doctor could say you have permanently lost X% of your ability to use your back and the insurance company would have to send you a check for that % based on the # of weeks you were off. That would definitely move you up from Mac-n-cheese to sirloin/ribeye.
Of course i'm just guessing on all this.

Some valid points were made here but I'm still leaning towards Fuck em.

I think matta has a good idea. What are the work comp obligations if the office closes, though?
