Since I'm thinking about searching out some blueberry (a strain of marijuana), my thoughts drifted back to the first time I watched Tropic Thunder.
First off the lights were out, blu-ray was in, and 7.1 surround was pounding. I loaded up a "cyclone clear" with some high grade stuff, for smoking purposes. (i hadn't smoked in months, i don't smoke that much, weed just isn't my drug of choice... you all know what that is)
When I wasn't crying from laughter, my thoughts were trained on the "sheer brilliance" of the movie. (please not I'm a huge fan of apocalypse now) I was distinctly aware of the whole perception vs. reality debate (and thankfully hadn't been drinking)
When it was over both my gf and I were blown away (she had seen the movie befor, but at the time she thought it was just ok)
The next day, she suggested that we watch it again, sober. I agreed, and to my amazement my appreciation for the film remained.
This is truly a fantastic film, my suggestion to those of you with blu ray players.
1. Wait for a day when (after dark) you can have the full surround going.
2. Turn off the lights and calibrate the picture on your tv, the blu-ray actually has a calibration device in the special features.
3. Load up a big bad blunt, or roll 3 or 4 joints (smoke them like a cigarette- this is an event no need to be chintzy or coughy)
4. Press play and light up.
Truly this is an amazing movie, and if you haven't seen it yet, buy or rent it, even the special features are amazing.
Once you've seen it try watching the commentary, I'm normally not don't enjoy that option- But Jack Black, Stiller, and Downy Jr. are the commentators.
