Lickliter is fucking toast. The program is in disarray, the style of play is not conducive to high-level NCAA basketball (there's this thing called a "shot clock" that negates pass-pass-pass-pass-pass-pass-take shitty shot.") Lickliter has no control over his program. His recruiting is shit. He's battling mid-major schools for recruits. Fuck that shit. Kids on that level will go to Creighton before they go to Iowa...so he's not even going to get the cream of that crop.
And he's got the charisma of a wet blanket. Now I know people have compared him to Ferentz, but Ferentz has a biting, sarcastic wit about him to go along with his calm, self-deprecating style. Lickliter is just fucking boring.
Barta needs to can his ass and hire Obama's brother in law from Oregon State. He's a good coach, and it would create a lot of buzz.

Iowa Athletics has always been progressive in hiring minority candidates (see George Raveling and Vivian Stringer) before it was politically correct to do. However, Robinson took the Beavers to the CBI tournament. The CBI is a fucking joke. Would this be great PR and a PT Barnum moment for Iowa Basketball, YES! Is that a good basketball move.....probably not.

When you hire a mid-major coach you get mid-major recruiting. Just ask Iowa State. Greg Mdickbuttrmott versus Johnny Orr. Enough said. The "big name" coaches are "big name" for a reason. Then there's the up and coming guys, who are more of a risk (Alfraud) but can often pay big dividends and turn into the "big name" (see: Lute Olson). Pay the fucking money, Barta.

I don't mind Lickliter. I don't think we should bail on him yet. If we fire a coach every two years we will never get our feet on the ground.

If we fire a coach every two years we will never get our feet on the ground. +1 Agreed, and I love the style of play argument when we averaged 60 points a game and every other team in the Big Ten averaged 66 or fewer other then MSU and Purdue. We are talking about a couple of baskets a game difference.

Jesus fucking Christ thunder, give the guy a fucking break. You have to look at what the average team Iowa can expect to get in right now. It's going to have a bunch of white kids from Iowa that you have to develop, you're not going to see the Oden's and Gordon's of the world lining up to come to Iowa. If you gave Lickliter that team that had the 3 seed a few years ago and he had developed those guys, I think he would have won the B10 regular season and gotten to at least the Sweet 16.
Does the offense need to get better? Yes, but look at the players Alfraud left behind. Seth SonderGourneyReinerLeiter. JR Angle. David Palmer. These guys are just not good ball players. My only fear with Lick is that he might not be greasy enough. We need a really greasy motherfucker in there who has no problem looking the other way when a booster shows up at a few Chicago Public League games with briefcases full of cash and keys to a new Lexus.

As of now, we still have a talented point guard in Peterson who will only get better with the additional practice time. But for how long? A couple of more days? He's on his way out of town as well. I guess i had heard this also, why do people think he is leaving? Was he homesick also? Or was it playing time, thinking that J. Kelly was taking over his position? I could see him wanting to stick around after the meeting with Licklighter mentioned above. His playing time/Role on this team just took a steep upswing. With him to run the point, Jaryd Cole's plain all out effort, Tuckers offense (three point skills) and Gatens all around game. The future is bright enough for me. We have scholarships open if we can find the right person to bring in to augment these four along with our incoming freshmen/Juco's. Then I just dont beleive that the tunnel is as dark for Hawkeye basketball as some people are making it out to be.

At this time last year, I was wondering how we could let our best player (in my opinion, Freeman) leave. During this basketball season, i probably thought about Freeman one time.
I have a feeling that this is how I will be thinking the about Kelly next season. These players are replaceable. Although, i dont want to lose any more players this years.

Palmer, JP, Kelly, and Davis.
We're at the bottom of the barrell. Hopefully we can field a team next. Actually...maybe it would be less painful if we don't.

I thought the closed the Chicago Public League to fans other than students and Parents of the home team, except for the visiting teams parents with permission due to the fights and shootings. They also moved moved the game times to the afternoons. That is what I read in the Tribune this winter anyhow.
