Looking forward to see our 5'6 coaches' son running the point next year. We could be looking at a 6 win season next year, and become the new Penn State basketball program of the Big Ten.

As long as our football program is top tier a poor basketball program doesn't bother me too much. Still sucks though, don't get me wrong.
Funny thing too is I was just talking last night with a couple of buddies about how we should have a solid chance of making the NCAA tourney next year. I'm thinking maybe not so much now.

This is not good for a program when 3 of your regular contributors no longer want to be part of the program. Remember Tony Freeman claiming that Lickliter ran him off.......could that be happening here as well........
Kelly and Peterson were Stevie Baby recruits.....not sure on Davis.

Hopefully it is all just rumors, but Kelly saying, “I really can’t say right now.” and “I’d really rather not talk about it right now.” Doesn't look too promising. If the rumors are true it will suck being a Hawkeye basketball fan for a good long while. Luckily I am one of few that realize that it is all just entertainment (though, if true, getting to be pretty un-entertaining entertainment).

Iowa is a football school.
And Lickliter is toast.
Is Obama's brother in law interested in the job?

I have now heard that Palmer could go. Wonderful. At this point, I've heard just about every name rumored. Kelly and Davis are the two concrete, with one more supposedly left to go (though I've heard up to two more). I thought Lickliter was the answer to Alford's notorious player attrition.

FWIW, I saw Gatens, Tucker, and Palmer all hanging out and playing some pick up Monday at the fieldhouse. That would leave me to believe that they are all pretty happy. Cole is there quite a bit, often with Palmer too.

I hate to say it but becoming a new coach for Iowa basketball would be about as appealing as becoming the head coach of the Clowns.

I agree Lickliter will be around next year, but another year of shitty basketball and only 5,000 people in Carver is going to force Barta to make some serious decisions about the basketball program and the road it is going down.

Great point. Iowa Basketball has always been a respectable Big Ten BB program over the last 30 years. If it starts to get the reputation that Penn State and Northworsten have had over the last 10-15 years, then changes need to be made. Even in average years Carver would have 10K for a conference game. Having luckluster BB seasons with poor attendance should not be allowed to become the norm for this conference. Outside of Iowa, this BB program has been respected and needs to continue to be.

It sucks and is a huge blow to the team, but can understand (Kelly): www.tribstar.com/breakingnews/local_story_085180826.html“He wanted to be closer to home after the death of his mother this past year,” Bob Kelly said. “His thoughts about playing in the future are that he’d like to go to Indiana State and play,” Bob Kelly said. “He hasn’t had any contact with the coach yet to know if they would be interested or not. I would guess that would be upcoming shortly.” Jake Kelly moved with his mother Julia to Marshall, Ill., following the divorce of his parents when Jake was in sixth grade. He and his now 19-year-old brother Luke moved with his mother to Carmel following Jake’s sophomore year at Marshall. Julia and Luke moved to Solon, Iowa, just outside Iowa City, to be close to Jake as the guard began his collegiate career. Julia was killed in the plane crash in Florida in early June of 2008. “She was definitely his No. 1 fan,” Bob Kelly said. “It was a crushing blow to he and his brother. It was very tough. To even go to college is tough. But to play ball at that level … “He’s struggled to play basketball and go to school ... it’s tough enough when you don’t have any tragedies strike.” Jake Kelly has remained good friends with future ISU walk-ons Lucas and Logan Eitel, who recently led Marshall to the Class 2A basketball state finals in Illinois. Bob Kelly said that Jake has a lot of family on both sides that live in Terre Haute. “He’s always been interested in ISU,” Bob Kelly said. “When Royce Waltman was there, he was afraid [Waltman] was at the end of his reign. He really liked Steve Alford [who recruited him to Iowa]. He likes coach [Todd] Lickliter a lot too. He’d just like to get home.”

It sucks plain and simple, but these guys are just basketball players, and they can be replaced. We need a team of hard working team players that want to be here. Let them leave. We can bring in people to replace them.
I refuse to let myself get angry about this. Shit happens.
As of now, we still have a talented point guard in Peterson who will only get better with the additional practice time.
With Davis, I saw to many Jumpers/Layups with the game on the line to miss him much.

I think Lick needs to keep the freshmen - Tucker, Gatens and Fuller. Jake played his ass off this year, but think back to the pre-Alford era. Jake would have been lucky to be a 6th or 7th man on many of those teams with an outside chance of starting as a senior. We need some better players ASAP.

From Itheus' article:
"He was the Hawkeyes' leading scorer this past season at 11.6 points per game"
That pretty much sums it up right there. 11.6 ppg for our leading scorer? God damn we fucking suck.

God damn we fucking suck. That's pretty good considering the team averaged 40 ppg...... I guess that really doesn't help......

I saw somewhere he is having a meeting with Lick today, so JP could be gone today and probably made public on Monday.
