Show of hands. Who's going?
I haven't been for at least 25 years. Have I missed anything?
And can I at least get agreement that the musical acts are pretty horrible? For such an esteemed fair, you'd think they could get something a bit more big-time. This year's lineup seems suckier than most.

I'll be there Aug. 15 I think. Other than looking at huge hog nuts and eating deep-fried Twinkies, what is there to see/do? And don't give me the "people watching" bullshit. You can watch proles anywhere in Iowa for free. Just ask me. I live in Marshalltown. Do the carneys hand out meth samples or something?

Like I said earlier, my gf is from the Chicago area and she enjoys it. It really isn't bad. Were going with my buddy and his wife so I should be able to have a pretty good time.

The Iowa State Fair is about the most unappealing 'attraction' I've ever been to. There is no way in hell I'm going to it.
Way too many morons wandering about and nothing to see or do. I went to a horrible county fair last Thursday to see a Candlebox concert. Damn that was a bad fair. The state fair is bad in the same kind of way only on a larger scale.

unless they have a "hot naked chicks making out with each other" contest I'll be staying inside where I have air conditioning. 90 degree + humidity + a lot of people = not fun.

I go to the fair every year. Although, I spend most of the time in the campground (my parents camp the entire fair) drinking beer and Jager and playing bags. It's a good excuse to get incredibly wasted and let my parents feed me.
But, yeah, the actual fair itself blows ass. Although I do enjoy the "people watching" aspect of it. I remember the year Bob Dylan played there (the last concert I've been to at the fair). A couple buddies and me ate some acid and walked around the fair before and after the concert. That was a trip....literally. Strong acid and "fair people" = interesting

My grandfather was a state horseshoe champion in the late 1970s. I go occasionally to pay my respects to his championships.

I won a horseshoe tournament there 2 years ago. Pretty funny considering I never play horseshoes.
What are horseshoes anyway? Do they make horsesocks?

The last time I was there, I was on the Floppy Show. I got to do the "here's our next cartoon" bit. Didn't do much for my career or Duane Elliot's. Dude ended up having a gripper and I ended up doing assorted shit jobs just to earn two nickels to rub together. Damn you, State Fair!! Damn you to Hell!!

I think the wife is, but I have no desire.
People watching is fun for about 10 minutes, but then I get tired...and hot and sweaty, paying too much for beer.

I will be going friday and saturday. I am going to take a tent and camp. Probably spend most of the time next to my beer cooler and playing bags though

Bump. Anyone going to White Trash Night on Friday? (aka East Side Night) I'll probably go Saturday night. Friday night is Rebelution in Omaha. Which, if you were even 1/4 cool, you would attend as well. But I guess this is coming from the same dude who is selling his DMB tickets so I won't hold my breath.

I would go to Omaha but have to work and won't be able to get off early.
I think Seth got Kicked out of the fair last year for trying to have a threesome with the Butter Cow and Butter Shawn Johnson.
