Post-Navy life will have me living in Sterling, IL....position as Director of Pharmacy at the hospital. New career starts November 1st.
This puts me in a community of about 30K, away from the Chicago rat race. 40 miles to Quad Cities, another hour to IC, and only 2 hours if I choose to go to the city.
Should be a nice gig.
Thank you to everybody who I sought advice and counsel from....especially Ron.

Hey, my best friend from high school lives in Sterling! Cool, small world. If you go to the KMart, ask for the manager. Tell him I said to give you a discount. Unfortunately, he won't, he is a cheap ass ISU fan, but never hurts to ask.
Nice little town in the middle of Ill. Was there Feb before last visiting. Quiet, but close enough to everything that you can stay entertained.
Congrats on the job. I am about 1 year out, retire end of August next year. CAN'T WAIT. Hope that the grass is truly greener on the other side and that you enjoy the hell out of it.

Congrats, I would assume the next order of business is to find a place to live that's within walking distance of a Crown Royal retailer.

Excellent news.
Think you could score me some painkillers? I'm going mountain climbing in a couple of weeks, it's a looooooong fucking approach and I wouldn't mind being comfortably numb.

Make it back to Iowa soon, Seth. Medical marijuana will be legalized within the next couple of years in our state. You could be the Wasteland hookup.

You would associate legalized medical marijuana with our state being in the gutter? Tell that to the cancer patient who smokes it so they can eat. Say what you will about non-medical marijuana use, but to shun a very viable medicine is just plain close-minded. You probably think that our state is in the gutter since we legalized same sex marriage too. It must suck to live in that hole you call reality. People like you really mystify me. So much judgment, so much hate, so much retard.

The whole weed-cancer line is tired and smacks of drinking whiskey for anesthesia prior to surgery. Evidently, you and your cohorts haven't received the news alert. Pain relieve medication has been discovered, is legal when prescribed and actually works great. Water is also wet.

I have had family members with cancer and that have taken marijuana. It was medically prescribed... not that it should really fucking matter. The extent of your hatred and your "I know what's best for everyone attitude" is amazing. Why should you or anyone care what someone takes to relieve the pain, nausea, and diminished appetite caused from chemo and radiation? I just found out that my mother has cancer and if she should need marijuana to help her, you better believe your stupid fucking ass that I will get it for her ANY way that I can. Legal or not. I don't wish this shit on anyone, but if karma truly exists, you might sing a different tune someday.

I don't wish this shit on anyone, but if karma truly exists, you might sing a different tune someday. You may want to get your Mother another Doctor. There are multiple great reasons why the overwhelming majority of states refuse to legalize marijuana, medical or otherwise and it isn't because they are filled with "hatred". For the benefit of your Mother, the following: www.justice.gov/dea/ongoing/marijuana.htmlA few quotes from the reference: "Smoking marijuana also weakens the immune system and raises the risk of lung infections. A Columbia University study found that a control group smoking a single marijuana cigarette every other day for a year had a white-blood-cell count that was 39 percent lower than normal, thus damaging the immune system and making the user far more susceptible to infection and sickness.""Any determination of a drug's valid medical use must be based on the best available science undertaken by medical professionals. The Institute of Medicine conducted a comprehensive study in 1999 to assess the potential health benefits of marijuana and its constituent cannabinoids. The study concluded that smoking marijuana is not recommended for the treatment of any disease condition. In addition, there are more effective medications currently available. For those reasons, the Institute of Medicine concluded that there is little future in smoked marijuana as a medically approved medication.""In other studies, smoked marijuana has been shown to cause a variety of health problems, including cancer, respiratory problems, increased heart rate, loss of motor skills, and increased heart rate. Furthermore, marijuana can affect the immune system by impairing the ability of T-cells to fight off infections, demonstrating that marijuana can do more harm than good in people with already compromised immune systems.""In addition, in a recent study by the Mayo Clinic, THC was shown to be less effective than standard treatments in helping cancer patients regain lost appetites.""The American Medical Association recommends that marijuana remain a Schedule I controlled substance.""It's also important to realize that the campaign to allow marijuana to be used as medicine is a tactical maneuver in an overall strategy to completely legalize all drugs. Pro-legalization groups have transformed the debate from decriminalizing drug use to one of compassion and care for people with serious diseases. The New York Times interviewed Ethan Nadelman, Director of the Lindesmith Center, in January 2000. Responding to criticism from former Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey that the medical marijuana issue is a stalking-horse for drug legalization, Mr. Nadelman did not contradict General McCaffrey. "Will it help lead toward marijuana legaization?" Mr. Nadelman said: "I hope so."""Marijuana has no medical value that can't be met more effectively by legal drugs"

Nice job posting from the DEA site. Think they have an agenda? Also, nice recent info in there. Studies/interviews from 1993, 1999, 2000... have you checked a calendar lately? And why do I need to read some "study" about how pot does not help appetite when I KNOW that is complete bullshit? I have a relative that would vouch for the inaccuracy of that study if he were alive. He was able to eat much better after the pot. Plain and simple. I am amazed at where you get your info and how you can honestly take it for gospel and spew it as "fact". But I think the main point in all of this is... WHY DO YOU CARE?? I couldn't give a rip if my neighbor is smoking pot right now and he is healthy. I certainly don't care if someone who is sick smokes pot. Whatever might help them, I'm cool with. Just WHERE do you get off saying otherwise? Because of some supposed studies? So you think that cancer patients should be forced to take one drug for nausea, one drug for appetite loss, and one drug for pain rather than to smoke a joint? Again, I don't wish cancer on anyone. But if karma should decide that you get it, just don't come here looking for sympathy.

Oh, so the DEA, the AMA, the University of Columbia, the majority of states and the overwhelming majority of Americans all have an agenda? They're all filled with hate? That is pretty damn convenient! Did you miss the part where standard treatments are more effective than the THC in dope when it comes to regaining appetite? You and your fellow stoners have Iowafan1 tunnel vision. It isn't Iowafan1 dude.....it is the majority of the Country. You need to leave the blind faith in your dope behind.

Uh, Seth, I know the conversation has turned slightly here, but really congrats on your retirement. A shame that some couldn't leave it at that.
Seriously, do you all have to argue about this crap on a thread where a guy is excited about a huge change in his life? Show the man some respect.

It's all good fella's. Just wanted to share my joy with others.
They make M-Jane "perles" called Marinol. You swallow them like a capsule.
An MD can order them for glaucoma and/or pain relief.
With that said, sorry, but my pharmacy license is worth a lot more to me than watching a few of you schmo's get loaded at my expense. ;D
