I got this in an email and thought I would share- to whoever is the author
I want to make a toast......
Fellow Hawk fans, raise your glasses and pay homage as we begin the most wonderful time of year....a time where it is perfectly justified and expected to pour that precious nectar we call BEER down our throats as the sun rises.... to the smell of pork chops, brats, burgers, chili, eggs, and bacon filling the air...to the tossing of the football with your kids...or a buddy who reminisces of past grid iron glory that has long passed him by....to the game before the game - in the form of beer pong, bags, washers or whatever hillbilly game hits the mainstream this year.... to the casual..or not so casual observance of co-eds as they prance around half drunk after two beers and look at us like ancient slobs who are old enough to be their grandpa (as you think to yourself...ya...I think she smiled at me)....here is to great performances each Saturday by our beloved men that proudly wear the black and gold - we are proud of each and every one of you (Yes Paki - we love you man).....here is to a season that meets or exceeds our expectations....here is to a year with minimal injuries....here is to Hawkeye fans on these boards handling success and failure in a classy way rather than chest pounding or excuse making tirades....here is to the Hawkeye fight song blaring over stereo speakers...to Iowa flags waiving proudly in the air, to the offering of high-fives to complete strangers as you make your walk to the stadium....to the dull rumble of the marching band you hear off in the distance...to the glorious sight of Kinnick Stadium as it makes its way into your line of sight....to giving some spare change to the homeless man that holds up the sign in front of the stadium that reads, "Family kidnapped by Ninjas, please give money for karate lessons"....to the firm hold you have on your game day ticket as you approach the gate....to the battle tested knowledge you possess that has taught you the importance of taking one last bathroom break before taking your seat....to the wise knowledge you possess to purchase a water or soda so that you may re-hydrate during the game so that you are prepared to consume mass quantities of post-game victory nectar.....to the slow walk up the ramp as the cool breeze hits you in the face...to the quickening of your pulse...to the sweat forming on your hands...to the announcement you make to all those around you that you will be sitting very little during the game.....to your first drink of soda from your Hawkeye souvenir cup (and thinking..dang...these cups still smell like poop).....to the entrance of Herky into the stadium while you think, "I know he is gonna fall off that stupid platform some day".....to the sound of AC/DC thumping through your core as your beloved Hawkeyes prepare to take the field.....to the scoreboard countdown that lets you know it is upon you.....
It is upon us gentleman. It is our time. The time when we unite to form Hawkeye Nation. A time when we take a back seat to no fan base in pure passion, pride and faith in our extended family...that of the great young men who have chosen to represent our great Hawkeye State. Rise up...Rise up I say....for this is a time that will be remembered for generations...a time others will look upon in envy and wish that they had joined us... This I say to you as brothers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Go Hawks!
