www.bigtennetwork.com/sports/football/story.asp?list_id=47&story_id=3371808A new low has emerged in the post-season bowl money grab. Now the Cap-1 has to share a time slot with another much lesser Big-10 bowl game, and, the Alamo bowl, which at least had its own audience is no longer an option. So now Iowa for example who busted their ass all season might have to share the Cap-1 timeslot with Illinois for example who's mailing it in this season. The bowl system should be a REWARD system for a team AT LEAST .500 in conf play and above .500 in overall record. Playing in a bowl game used to mean something. Playing in a Jan 1st bowl game used to REALLY mean something. It was an honor and a true reward for a job well job during the regular season. Now the Big-10 is playing in five...count em...FIVE Jan 1st bowl games. The entire bowl cluster-fuck has descended further into a piggish money grab. Nothing more, nothing less. And don't get me started on the "extra practice" BS....hell...if you're the #7 or #8 team in a league more practice is only perpetuating an already established season-long futility. The bowl system is 80% Greetarded (greedy + retarded) Delaney signed this crap. Amazing. Pisses me off.

College football is the only sport where post-season isn't a true measure of regular season success. It's starting to remind me of high school basketball/football in some states that allow all teams to make the playoffs (i.e. regionals).

I actually don't think it's that bad at first glance
-Adding two bowls that are played in NFL stadiums (Houston and Jacksonville) -The Gator should be a good match up with one of the top teams in the ACC -Most years a Big Ten team won't have to go to Detroit -More money for the BT and the schools
There are only a couple of things I don't like:
-The TV cluster fuck on the 1st -the loss of the Alamo Bowl which was a great spot for the fans

I think the Cotton Bowl will be played in Jerry's new stadium as well.

This is good for the B10. It's sad to see the Alamo Bowl go, but if we replaced it with a better bowl, bye bye. This is a testament to the fans of the B10, if I'm a NYD bowl in Florida I'd much rather have Wisconsin, PSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa or OSU than almost any other Pac Ten, Big 12, ACC or Big Least school. A lot of eyeballs watching the TVs in the midwest, too. The money also inures to the member schools after expenses are paid, and I'd much rather see those big pots going to the Big Ten for distribution than to some other conference. More money for the program means more money for the program to buy out O'Queefe's contract. I will be able to deal with flipping the channels on NYD, I know you might have a problem with it, Seth, but you'll fight through it and adjust. You're a survivor.

Being a Chicago lawyer....I can understand you being a money-grubbing fool. We don't play a Big-12 team anymore. We diluted the Jan 1st games into meaningless nothingness. We perpetuated the notion college athletics are NOT about the kids and the sport...but about the alum spending money. This expanded bowl shit sucks. We need a playoff.

Sorry Seth, I liked Iowa playing Texas and I liked the Michigan-Nebraska game, but when the Alamo Bowl degenerates down to Northwestern-Missourrah and there is another bowl offering more money, bye bye Big 12. Plus, that matchup now involves the Pac 10, meaning they now have to play 2 BCS conferences in decent bowl games instead of just 1.
Bince I often get ballpunched at the end of the year, I don't always get to see the night games in the week between x-mas and New Year's. More games on New Year's are better for me and many other people who have shit going on. Plus, there is a much greater likelhood of guys like me going to a NYD bowl game rather than a December 27th or 28th bowl game because I would minimize the number of business days out of the office if the game is on 1/1 instead of 12/27.
College athletics are about the kids, sure football and basketball are about the money, but the more money those bring in, the more money the school has to spend on non-revenue sports and for re-investment into the University's facilities and general funding. Another million bucks a year flowing to the University of Iowa is a good thing and is certainly worth throwing out a 15 year old bowl partnership for. With the basketball team as shitty as it, the Athletic Department needs to secure additional revenue sources.
There will be no playoff. But if you thought Orrin Hatch raised a stink last year when Utah got left out of the title game, imagine how pissed Grassley will be if Iowa goes undefeated and gets left out of the title game in lieu of a one loss SEC team.

Sorry seth, it sure sounded like you were going off on another of your "Oh I'm so liberal, money is so bad" tirades again. I'm hardly a liberal, and, I'm hardly against money. Just think the whole idea of the bowl games now-a-days is just silly.

Though I don't have much right now.
