I ask because I was at a wedding in Neck Moines last weekend and my buddy, who ain't the sharpest tool in the shed and whose work ethic is slightly lower than that of 4th generation Rockefeller, told me that he landed a job at Bells Cargo. I was shocked. He said he's doing mortgage modifications and proles call in all day giving him sob stories about how Bells Cargo ripped them off by letting them buy a $500,000 house when they only made $30,000.
So I wonder, are they on a massive hiring binge over there? This dude has worked at every company in Neck Moines and never lasts for more than a month at a time.

They were hiring pretty heavy in subordinations (due to the refi boom) - and collections. Neither job really requires a heavy skill set. Are you sure he actually got hired, or went through a temp agency? Because of the constant change right now, you usually have to give 6 months or so of solid service before Bells would consider hiring.

Holy fuck.... you mean this ISN'T a temp job?!? I thought Bells Cargo only hired temps. I worked in Home Equity (similar sob stories) and well over half the schleps in my department were temps. What was funny was when I would get a transfer call from another department and had to ask that person for their employee ID number. 90% of the time the reply would be "I'm just a temp... I don't have one". If Bells Cargo is actually hiring permanent folks, then maybe they have softened up and decided to use some of their exhorbitant profit for hiring. Or maybe they are finally deciding to use the "corporate welfare" money from Vilsack to help the job market. They are probably trying to win some "humanitarian award" for hiring people with our money. If your buddy has worked at every company in DM, has he worked at Allied yet? When he gets sick of the fuck-tards running Bells Cargo (and he will) he should look into Allied. My dept is short on people in a big way and will probably lift the "hiring freeze" after the first of the year.

The normal MO there is to hire temps, pay them peanuts, see who quits, and then pick maybe two out of the ones left at 6 months to permanent positions. If you can't tell, I think the place sucks ass. I currently work with four other people who came from there and they all say basically the same things about Bells Cargo.

The main reason they hire temps is because for 6 months they'll need to have heavy staffing in one area...what happens when they don't need them anymore? They can't automatically give them positions elsewhere that the skills/knowledge required are completely different. I started as a temp myself. I proved that I would be an asset, and they hired me. 6 years later, I'm still with the company. It's not perfect, but I have no problem with the temp system they have. It also weeds out the fucktards and slackers. I don't think there's too many people that work in the corporate world that love their job. It puts food on the table - and I have seen way too many people laid off to not consider myself fortunate.

It also weeds out the fucktards and slackers. A big reason for the "heavy staffing" need is because they can't staff for shit. They don't plan ahead. Instead, they wait for a crisis, shit their pants in a panic, and then hire a bus load of temps to fill the void. Do they get a lot of fucktards by doing that? Absolutely. Sometimes they get a few diamonds in the rough too. The problem is that they often let the good people go and let the fucktards stay because the fucktard can't leave and go anywhere else. And a fucktard will take the asinine mis-management bullshit because he doesn't know any better. I only speak from experience in my department, but that is how it went there. Some really good people were let go for bad reasons. Some people just up and left because they realized their value elsewhere. What happens then? They hire more temps and the cycle repeats itself. Kudos to you for being there for 6 years! I take it you work in a "normal" area. Or you have incredibly thick skin.

I don't know if he is a temp - from your stories he probably is. That would make sense, why would you hire a permanent employee for that job - hopefully all the crap will be cleared out in a year or two and you sure as shit don't want 1,000 people sitting around doing nothing.

Kudos to you for being there for 6 years! I take it you work in a "normal" area. Or you have incredibly thick skin. Thanks. Yes, I started off in Retention which made me question my sanity every day. People calling up to payoff their equity accounts - my job was to save them. They pay was decent, but my skin is only so thick. It was pretty fucking brutal. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with the goddamn customers (office space). It's still kind of a sales job, but more on the wholesaler side. I sell mortgage consultants on selling equity products, and provide my "expertise" on underwriting guidelines.
